Where the top quarterbacks in the 2027 cycle are committed

It’s officially been one month since the final senior blue-chip quarterback came off the board. Amarillo (Texas) Palo Duro four-star QB Julian Reese II shocked many with a commitment to Ryan Carty and Delaware on Aug. 28.

Reese is one of 28 blue-chip (four or five-star) passers in the 2027 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Rankings, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies. It’s become customary for QB dominoes to drop early in the cycle and that’s certainly the case with this group.

Prospects want to lock up their spot in a class as quickly as possible, and many top QB recruits are often lynchpins for their respective class and help bring in other notable pledges throughout the year. This cycle features eight QBs who are also top-100 overall prospects.

Many of the usual suspects have swooped in and landed some of the top signal-callers in the cycle, but there’s also been some surprising wins. The No. 1 QB in the land is headed for Nebraska, while Kentucky and Virginia Tech are among the others that have made a splash.

It’s been a while since 2027 QB recruiting was a hot topic, so Rivals is taking another look at the top 10 prospects at the position in the cycle, now that their senior seasons are about halfway complete across a majority of the country.

1. Trae Taylor — Nebraska

School:Millard South (Neb.)
Committed Since: May 1, 2025

Taylor was one of the first dominoes to fall and his stock has soared since. He emerged as a five-star after winning Rivals MVP at the Elite 11 Finals this summer and he’s amidst an incredible senior year at his new high school. Matt Rhule and Nebraska prioritized him as a junior and the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder has been rock-solid since. No prospect has been a more vocal recruiter than Taylor.

2. Elijah Haven — Alabama

School:Dunham School (La.)
Committed Since: April 25

Haven was the initial No. 1 QB in the cycle and he’s remained an industry five-star. The 6-foot-4.5, 220-pound gunslinger totes an imposing frame and can hurt you with his arm and legs — he’s got dominant high school film. Alabama was trending for Haven for a long time, and while he pushed back his commitment date multiple times last fall and winter, he finally jumped in the boat on April 25. The Tide beat Auburn and Georgia in the end.

3. Israel Abrams — Miami

School:Montini Catholic (Ill.)
Committed Since: April 3

Abrams’ recruitment was hotly contested, and multiple schools were trending throughout different points. Iowa State had an early lead, while Auburn and Purdue were battling in the spring. But once Miami really kicked the tires, it was evident that the Hurricanes would be tough to beat. Abrams pledged at the beginning of April and is another passer who’s since bolstered his stock while putting up gaudy numbers at the high school level.

4. Will Mencl — Oregon

School:Chandler (Ariz.)
Committed Since: April 22

Mencl remains the No. 1 QB in the Rivals300 and he’s near industry five-star status, too. His recruitment quickly blew up and it turned into an Oregon-Auburn-Penn State battle, but Dan Lanning and the Ducks made the biggest impact while having him on campus and he opted to commit in the spring. Mencl threw for nearly 4,000 yards as a junior and his elite accuracy is one of the many things that stands out when watching him sling it.

5. Jake Nawrot — Kentucky

Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 52 NATL.
School:John Hersey (Ill.)
Committed Since: April 12

Nawrot was a major riser in the Rivals300 earlier this year and he quickly emerged as one of the top passers in the nation. Despite being an Iowa legacy, the 6-foot-4, 200-pounder opted for the SEC as new Kentucky head coach Will Stein made his first big splash on the trail in his new digs. Kansas State and Oregon were also in the mix. Nawrot is the jewel of the Wildcats’ top-25 class.

6. Kavian Bryant — Texas Tech

Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 74 NATL.
School:Westwood (Texas)
Committed Since: Nov. 1, 2025

Joey McGuire and Texas Tech have flexed their new recruiting muscles in a big way this cycle. Landing Bryant nearly a year ago was a massive win as the Red Raiders build the clear-cut No. 1 class in the Big 12. He had offers from all of the other Lone Star State powerhouses, but TTU captured the momentum in his recruitment early and it paid off. Rivals’ Scouting and Rankings Team called Bryant the top athlete among the 2027 blue-chip QBs.

7. Peter Bourque — Virginia Tech

Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 80 NATL.
School:Tabor Academy (Mass.)
Committed Since: May 14

Bourque initially made a commitment to Michigan in August of 2025, but the firing of Sherrone Moore and shift in Ann Arbor resulted in him putting his name back on the board this February. The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder accrued heavy interest from a slew of teams, including Penn State and Georgia. James Franklin and Danny O’Brien pushed for Bourque while at PSU and they re-kicked the tires upon landing at Virginia Tech. The Hokies surged and plucked his commitment, kickstarting some serious recruiting momentum for the ACC program.

8. Peyton Houston — LSU

School:Evangel Christian Academy (La.)
Committed Since: Sept. 15, 2025

Houston has become one of the more notable high school QBs to come through Louisiana in some time. That’s thanks to throwing for over 8,300 yards and 80 TDs over the last two seasons — he’s doing more of the same as a senior this fall, to no surprise. Oklahoma and USC were pushing especially hard to land his commitment last fall, but LSU wasn’t keen on letting him leave The Boot. He committed to the Tigers and remained locked in despite the coaching change in Baton Rouge.

9. Kamden Lopati — Michigan

Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 118 NATL.
School:West (Utah)
Committed Since: April 14

Once Kyle Whittingham got settled in as the new lead man at U-M, he and the new staff returned to his recruiting backyard and honed in on Lopati in Utah. Originally committed to Illinois for over eight months, Lopati picked up his offer from the Wolverines and flipped soon after. He impressed at the Elite 11 Finals this summer and is having a standout senior campaign this fall.

10. Keegan Croucher — Ole Miss

Rivals Industry Rankings: No. 122 NATL.
School:Baylor School (Tenn.)
Committed Since: Oct. 5, 2025

Checking in at 6-foot-4.5 and 200 pounds, Croucher boasts one of the best arms in the cycle. He committed to Ole Miss over Oregon and Penn State as a junior. Despite the departure of Lane Kiffin and changes in Oxford, he’s stayed solid with the Rebels. Croucher transferred to Tennessee HSFB power Baylor School for his senior season and he continues to shine at the prep level.
