Georgia football will begin the 2026 season once again ranked in the top five in the nation.Kirby Smart’s program is on the lofty perch for a ninth straight season.The Bulldogs check in at No. 3 in the US LBM coaches poll Top 25 released on Tuesday Aug. 4.That’s a spot higher than Georgia’s 2025 preseason rank and the fifth time under Smart the Bulldogs have been top 3 in the preseason poll.“The consistency and performance is probably what I'm most proud of over the last 10 to 11 years, including this season,” Smart said. “Consistency and performance is what Georgia has been built on. Can we repeatedly do and be successful regardless of who comes in and out of your program?"Ohio State is No. 1 in the poll, followed by Oregon, Georgia, Texas and Notre Dame.Georgia, coming off a 12-2 record and a No. 5 final ranking in the coaches poll, opens its season on Sept. 5 against Tennessee State.The Bulldogs return quarterback Gunner Stockton, running back Nate Frazier and center Drew Bobo on offense, and the defense brings back All-American candidates in the secondary in safety KJ Bolden and cornerback Ellis Robinson and a rising talent in defensive lineman Elijah Griffin.Georgia will face four teams ranked in the preseason poll: No. 9 Oklahoma, No. 10 Ole Miss, No. 11 Alabama and No. 25 Missouri.The SEC landed nine teams in the top 25 including No. 8 Texas A&M, No. 13 LSU and No. 18 Tennessee.Smart is one of 72 coaches who voted in the preseason poll.College football rankingsUS LBM Coaches PollOhio State2.
