It’s Week 5, and the LSU Tigers are back home again in Death Valley this Saturday night to take on the McNeese State Cowboys.
The No. 11 Tigers will enter this matchup at 3-1 following a 35-6 victory over No. 23 Texas A&M, in a performance that offered the much-needed rebound after LSU’s loss at Ole Miss.
McNeese State is sitting at 2-3 after just edging East Texas A&M 27-24 last Saturday.
For LSU, the biggest objective in the game is straightforward: take care of business while continuing to develop an offense that is still finding its identity in Lane Kiffin’s first season as head coach.
LSU’s victory over Texas A&M was their most complete performance of the season. The Tigers controlled the game defensively and put together enough offensively to pull away from the Aggies. Saturday will give them provides another opportunity to carry that momentum into the second half of the season. However, the status of QB Sam Leavitt is up in the air after he suffered a leg/hamstring injury in the 3rd quarter and backup Landen Clark finished the game for the Tigers.
Meanwhile, McNeese will come into this game with some confidence of its own.
The Cowboys racked up 412 yards against East Texas A&M, including 210 rushing yards. With RB Omiri Wiggins having the biggest play of the night, a 74-yard touchdown run to finish the game with 116 rushing yards. Quarterback Jake Strong, who started in place of the injured Devin Lippold, completed 17 of 27 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown while adding 34 yards on the ground.
According to our friends at FanDuel, LSU is currently an overwhelming 48.5-point favorite over McNeese State with the over/under set at 61.5 points. However, expect some movement in those numbers once there is news regarding Leavitt’s official status for the game.
Kickoff is scheduled for 6:45 p.m. CT at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge on the SEC Network.
