Texas A&M's Week 9 bye gave the struggling Aggies their first real chance to rest before facing South Carolina on the road in Week 10, then Tennessee at home, Oklahoma in Norman, and Texas at home to finish the regular season. Sitting at 4-4 and 1-4 in SEC play, third-year coach Mike Elko continues to bank on senior quarterback Marcel Reed, who has already thrown eight interceptions compared to just eight touchdowns.
ESPN FPI does not predict the Aggies will win another game this season, which would be the program's first finish since 2008, when the Aggies also finished 4-8 during former coach Mike Sherman's first season. If the worst happens, Mike Elko won't necessarily be in the hot seat, but Mike Sherman was fired after four seasons.
If the Aggies let South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers set the tone early, I don't expect Marcel Reed to match his production, which would lead to the Aggies' fifth loss. Still, Mike Elko is under pressure to fix the issues plaguing the offense and defense, while first-year OC Holmon Wiggins and DC Lyle Hemphill are likely fighting for their jobs over the next four weeks.
Elsewhere in the SEC, the Texas Longhorns beat Mississippi State 31-7, while Georgia, Ole Miss, and Missouri all dominated in Week 9 as the conference race tightens in the final stretch of the regular season. While Texas A&M is looking to salvage its season, the College Football Playoff race is getting more interesting, especially for the remaining undefeated teams.
