Another week of carnage and mayhem in the SEC is behind us. It was a lot, but that’s won’t stop us from trying to put it all in perspective for every team in the span of a capital letter to a period. Yes, it’s the SEC in a Sentence.

Alabama: Crimson Tide fans continue to miss the days when a double digit win at home over Texas A&M provoked boredom rather than relief.

Arkansas: Arkansas heads to Missouri fresh off a bye week with a one game winning streak and Ryan Silverfield still at the helm, which is not something that was a certainty in mid-September.

Auburn: I’m sorry, I still can’t believe we lost to that team.

Florida: It’s fine, I’m sure Gunner Stockton will turn it over three times two weeks in a row, because that’s a thing that’s happened a lot.

Georgia: Can the Bulldogs put Auburn in the rearview and play within themselves in a game that perpetually screams for players to try to do too much?

Kentucky: “There’s an actual chance that Georgia and Kentucky could meet in the SEC Championship Game with the Wildcats a slight favorite” is one of a thousand completely true things you could have told me in 1998 that would have seemed preposterous at the time, right up there with “of course the backwards ball cap guy from MTV’s Road Rules is the current Secretary of Transportation!”

LSU: Don’t look now, but the Bayou Bengals could be coming off a bye week with the chance to knock Alabama and/or Texas out of the playoff picture.

Mississippi State: Will get their crack at the Longhorns before LSU, and amazingly don’t need a win to feel comfortable about bowl eligibility.

Missouri: 2026 Missouri is 2026 Florida for people who prefer their shirts with sleeves and their shoes with closed toes.

Oklahoma: Looked surprisingly competent once again in a tidy dispatching of Mississippi State on the road, but let’s not make a big deal about it just yet.

Ole Miss: 5-2 Ole Miss may be the SEC team I am most confident will be in the College Football Playoff, which both says something about the vicious parity that has gripped the conference and the vicious self-doubt that has gripped me ever since Gunner Stockton ran heedlessly into Drew Bobo’s unmissably large backside last Saturday.

South Carolina: It feels weird that I’m actually a little worried about South Carolina in the way I used to often be a little worried about South Carolina, and despite the familiarity I really, really don’t like it.

Tennessee: It’s okay, I’m told that many of the best teams of our generation have lost 27-24 on a walk-off field goal after a big win over Alabama.

Texas: The line between “Arch willed us to victory once again!” and “Arch very nearly cost us a winnable football game” is a thin one that zigzags jaggedly across the Lone Star State like the Brazos after a flood.

Texas A&M: Welp, back to the drawing board!

Vanderbilt: In a conference full of change and uncertainty it’s reassuring that Vanderbilt is back to needing an improbable series of late season upsets to have a chance of making a bowl game, almost like slipping into an old sweater and a comfy pair of slippers on a chilly evening.
