It's time for the Red River Rivalry between the No. 1 Texas Longhorns and the Oklahoma Sooners at Fair Park in Dallas. Both teams are coming off a bye week and enter the Cotton Bowl rested and ready for one of the biggest games of the season.

Both offenses have struggled throughout the season. The big difference is Texas and quarterback Arch Manning have taken care of the football, while the Sooners and QB John Mateer have not. The Longhorns have also had ice in their veins this season with a huge comeback against then No. 1 Ohio State and a gutty effort at Tennessee.

Texas and OU also both have stout defenses. Despite their 2-2 record, the Sooners defense has played well in every game. The Longhorns defense has looked dominant at times, led by defensive coordinator Will Muschamp and EDGE Colin Simmons.

With a win over their bitter rivals from north of the border, the Longhorns will stay undefeated and No. 1 in the nation.

Texas vs. Oklahoma prediction

12:15 PM ET, October 10 2026, Trey Luerssen

The big question is, will Manning and the Texas offense improve this week against a stout Oklahoma defense? The off week should have helped. But the UT offensive line worries me. OU has a much better defense than Tennessee had, and the Vols defense contained the Longhorns pretty well.

Mateer's trajectory started on a downward spiral in this game last year. He hasn't been the same since and has been a turnover machine. But offense isn't the only way to score. The Sooners might score on defense or special teams.

I think Texas wins, but it will be an ugly slugfest.

Final Score: Texas 20, Oklahoma 17

Texas-Oklahoma Sooners Injuries

12:14 PM ET, October 10 2026, Trey Luerssen

Hollywood Smothers is no where to be found on UT's injury list. That's great news for Texas coach Steve Sarkisian for the Red River Shootout against rival Oklahoma.

Smothers was listed as questionable two weeks ago for Texas' trip to Knoxville to face Tennessee. The NC State transfer dressed, but was not used in the game. Sarkisian said was glad he didn't have to go to the Longhorns leading rusher and let him rest through the bye week for OU.

No change on the #Texas injury report.
However, #Sooners LT Michael Fasusi has been declared out, and LG Eddy Pierre-Louis has been downgraded to doubtful. @ontexasfootballpic.twitter.com/vm0Rh8wV1P
