Texas Tech football became bound to draw millions of eyes ahead of Saturday. And not just because of Tommy Castellanos making his Red Raiders appearance following his failed NFL pursuit. One former five-star College Football Recruiting find earned hype to breakout this season under coach Joey McGuire.
College football insiders for CBS Sports Chris Hummer and Matt Zenitz cite wide receiver Micah Hudson as one to watch.
“A former five-star recruit seemingly poised to break out after a quiet first two college seasons: Texas Tech wide receiver Micah Hudson,” Zenitz shared on the social media website X, formerly Twitter. “Chris Hummer and I have been told that he’s had an extremely impressive offseason and is set to emerge as Tech’s No. 1 receiver this year.”

So that’s high praise for a polarizing talent. Hudson endured a rough start to his college career despite his decorated recruiting resume. But McGuire never was one to waiver on him.
The reigning Big 12 Conference title winning coach praised Hudson’s potential before the season. He even admitted to college football insider Pete Nakos of On3 on Aug. 8 that he was hard on Hudson at first.
“I put way too much pressure and expectation on him, and he put it on himself,” McGuire said to Nakos. “Then year two was kind of like, ‘Hey, let’s get back to just making it about football.’ Not all the other, how I was recruited, how many stars I have.”
So Hudson expects to see lots of targets this season, starting with Abilene Christian. Leading into a proposed breakout campaign. Texas Tech looks ready to unleash a new perimeter star on the field.
