No. 13 Texas Tech gets its first road test of the 2026 season Saturday night when the Red Raiders visit Oregon State at Reser Stadium in Corvallis.

Texas Tech opened with a 33-10 win over Abilene Christian, and while the final score looked comfortable, there were still areas Joey McGuire’s team will want cleaned up before facing a much more dangerous passing attack.

Quarterback Will Hammond was sharp in his return to action, completing 26 of 33 passes for 298 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

He completed 78.8 percent of his attempts and looked comfortable operating the offense after working his way back from last season’s knee injury.

The bigger issue was finishing drives.

Texas Tech reached the red zone five times against ACU and scored on all five possessions, but three of those trips ended with field goals.

That’s acceptable against an overmatched opponent. It becomes much more dangerous once the schedule gets tougher.

Saturday’s matchup also gives Texas Tech’s defense a different challenge.

Oregon State quarterback Braden Atkinson threw for 376 yards and a touchdown in the Beavers’ 33-20 loss at No. 22 Houston.

Freshman receiver Jesse Legree was his biggest weapon, catching five passes for 136 yards and a score.

The problem for Oregon State was almost everything happening around the passing game.

The Beavers managed just 26 rushing yards and allowed four sacks. They were outrushed 228-26, putting enormous pressure on Atkinson to carry the offense through the air.

That’s where Texas Tech has an opportunity.

If the Red Raiders can make Oregon State one-dimensional again, their defensive front should have chances to create pressure and force Atkinson into uncomfortable situations.

Texas Tech allowed only 194 total yards against ACU and enters Week 2 having surrendered just 75 rushing yards.

Offensively, the Red Raiders can attack an Oregon State defense that gave up 533 yards against Houston, including 228 on the ground.

That makes J’Koby Williams an important piece. Williams led Texas Tech with 71 rushing yards and a touchdown in the opener while also catching eight passes for 57 yards.

Texas Tech is a heavy favorite, but this game carries value beyond the point spread. It’s the Red Raiders’ first-ever trip to Reser Stadium, and their first opportunity to prove the Week 1 performance travels.

Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT Saturday on CBS, with streaming also available through Paramount+.
