Texas suffered its first loss of the 2026 college football season on Saturday, Oct. 10

The Longhorns entered the Red River Rivalry as the favorite but lost 27-24. Oklahoma Sooners kicker Tate Sandell drilled a 47-yard field goal as time expired, giving his team the upset win over the No. 1 team in the country.

Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning had a rough fourth quarter, throwing a pick-six and another interception that led to the game-winning kick.

Texas star pass rusher Colin Simmons — who turned in four tackles, two sacks and a forced fumble — pinpointed the reason for the loss.

“We definitely beat ourselves. Only Texas can beat Texas,” Simmons said, via CJ Vogel of OnTexasFootball.

While the Longhorns did beat themselves, especially in the fourth quarter, the Sooners deserve a ton of credit for winning the game. They made the plays they needed to make down the stretch to secure the win.

It’s the Sooners’ first win over the Longhorns since the 2023 season, when they won 34-30. It’s also Oklahoma’s first win over Texas when the latter was ranked No. 1 in the country.

What’s next for both teams?

The Sooners return to action on Oct. 17 when they host the Kentucky Wildcats, who have started the year strong, while the Longhorns host the Florida Gators.

Kickoff for the Sooners-Wildcats game will be at 7:30 p.m. ET, while the Longhorns-Gators game will start at noon ET.
