Texas football kept its hopes of an SEC Championship and a College Football Playoff berth alive on Saturday night, taking down No. 7 Ole Miss 34-27 in a thriller in Austin. After taking a 24-3 lead thanks to a dominant first half, the Longhorns had to hold off a furious Rebels rally after halftime to get the win.

While Texas had to have a victory on Saturday night and got it, it didn’t get all good news coming out of the game. Star left tackle Trevor Goosby and talented wide receiver Cam Coleman both left the game with injuries, and head coach Steve Sarkisian said after the game that it didn’t look good for either one of them, per Tyler Horka of On3 Sports.

“Steve Sarkisian says Trevor Goosby’s and Cam Coleman’s injury situations do not look very good,” Horka reported on X, formerly Twitter.

Goosby was carted off the field during the game and was seen walking with crutches on the sideline afterward. Coleman appeared to injure his shoulder on a diving catch and did not return to the game after leaving.

Goosby and Coleman weren’t the only stars that Texas was playing without by the end of the game on Saturday. Standout running back Hollywood Smothers, one-half of the Longhorns’ one-two punch with Raleek Brown in the backfield, didn’t play against Ole Miss. Star pass rusher Colin Simmons, a projected top-10 pick, is also out with an ankle injury.

Quarterback Arch Manning started to play near his capabilities again on Saturday, which will give Texas fans hope of a run to the CFP over the back half of the season. But the Longhorns need to be healthy in order to do that, so getting Coleman and Goosby back as soon as possible will be near the top of the priority list.

The SEC gauntlet doesn’t stop for Texas after just one ranked win. The Longhorns have a game against Mississippi State in Week 9 before games against Missouri and LSU. Wins in all of those games are paramount if Sarkisian and company are going to reach the CFP.
