AUSTIN — Texas Longhorns co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Johnny Nansen was not coaching on the sidelines for Saturday’s 30-6 win over the UTSA Roadrunners at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium while serving a one-game suspension for his DWI arrest on Wednesday evening.

According to head coach Steve Sarkisian, Nansen will rejoin the staff on Sunday morning as Texas prepares to travel to Knoxville to face No. 15 Tennessee next week in the team’s SEC opener.

“Obviously, he’s got some legal issues to work through and we’ll monitor that as we go,” Sarkisian said.

Nansen was arrested and charged with misdemeanor DWI on Wednesday evening after officers responded to a three-car crash in the 700 block of S. Capital of Texas Highway around 8:55. Police said that the Texas co-defensive coordinator displayed signs of possible impairment and was arrested after officers conducted field sobriety tests.

After Nansen was released the next morning on a PR bond, he missed practice before Sarkisian revealed his arrest during his Thursday morning media availability.
