Texas A&M Reveals Classic Uniform for Missouri State Opener

Texas A&M football is opening 2026 without any uniform gimmicks ... and that feels appropriate for a team with serious expectations.

The No. 8 Aggies will wear the traditional combination of maroon helmets, maroon jerseys and white pants when they host Missouri State on Saturday at Kyle Field. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN.

The look is familiar. The pressure surrounding this team isn’t.

Mike Elko enters his third season after guiding Texas A&M to an 11-2 record in 2025 and the first College Football Playoff appearance in program history.

The Aggies finished tied for the SEC’s best regular-season conference record at 7-1 before closing the year with consecutive losses to Texas and Miami.

Now comes the next step.

Quarterback Marcel Reed is back as the centerpiece of an offense expected to be significantly more dangerous.

Reed threw for 3,169 yards and 25 touchdowns last season while finishing with 12 interceptions. He enters 2026 with 5,407 career passing yards, 1,085 rushing yards and 55 total touchdowns.

The upside is obvious.

So is the biggest question: can Reed cut down the costly mistakes while maintaining the aggressiveness that makes him dangerous?

He’ll have help.

Texas A&M enters the season with a deep receiver group, experienced skill talent and enough offensive-line depth to give Reed opportunities to attack vertically.

That should make Missouri State an ideal opening test before the schedule gets considerably harder.

The defense may be even more interesting.

Northwestern transfer Anto Saka adds another edge-rushing option, while former Tennessee cornerback Rickey Gibson III brings SEC experience to the secondary.

Both are part of a defense expected to rely heavily on depth and speed.

Missouri State isn’t supposed to threaten Texas A&M.

That means Saturday isn’t really about simply getting to 1-0.

It’s about execution.

Can Reed control the game? Can the offensive line establish itself immediately? Can the Aggies’ defensive front overwhelm an inferior opponent without giving away explosive plays?

The uniform reveal says Texas A&M is sticking with tradition.

Everything else about 2026 is about proving the program has moved beyond simply reaching the playoff.

Now the Aggies have to show they belong there regularly.
