Texas A&M's 2026 season has hit a disastrous low after the Aggies endured their third loss in SEC play, falling 27-6 to Missouri in Columbia as starting quarterback Marcel Reed struggled, throwing for 189 yards and two interceptions, while the offense failed to reach the end zone.
However, Texas A&M's defense provided the offense every chance to take the lead, and while Reed failed to produce from the pocket, the run game was equally bad, rushing for a combined 29 yards due to the offensive line taking a step back after vast improvement during the Aggies' 34-7 win over Arkansas in Week 5.
During Monday's press conference, third-year coach Mike Elko has been under increased pressure from the fan base and national media since the loss, primarily due to his post-game comments, making a formal apology to TexAgs co-owner Billy Liucci, and revealing that his defensive play-calling duties have been passed down to first-year defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill.
It's tough to know whether major changes are coming, as Elko remains committed to starting Marcel Reed indefinitely, especially this Saturday against The Citadel, where the Aggies are predicted to score 40 or more points against an undersized FCS program, which won't prove anything.
Around the rest of the SEC, Texas's loss to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry knocked the Longhorns down a peg, while Kentucky looks like last year's Texas A&M team, hitting on all cylinders after defeating South Carolina and LSU in overtime in back-to-back weeks.
In the weekly USA TODAY Re-Rank, Texas A&M unsurprisingly dropped 13 spots, with only Vanderbilt and Arkansas ranked lower among SEC programs.
