With the Tennessee football team preparing for the showdown against the Alabama Crimson Tide, the question of who will be the starting quarterback is still up in the air. After the Tennessee football team benched Faizon Brandon during Oct. 3’s 24-14 win over Auburn, he sustained an injury that has been given a key update ahead of Saturday’s contest.

According to college football insider Pete Nakos, Brandon would practice Tuesday “after being limited with an injury last week.”

“Tennessee QB Faizon Brandon practiced Tuesday after being limited with an injury last week, sources told [Chris Lowe] and me for [On3 Sports],” Nakos wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “He’s still working through the shoulder injury but has continued to progress. Tennessee hosts Alabama on Saturday.”

Brandon had started the first five games for the Volunteers, but suffered a shoulder injury on Sept. 26 in the 20-17 loss to Texas, and tried to play through the issue against Auburn, but the team put in George MacIntyre instead. Head coach Josh Heupel would even give MacIntyre the nod for last Saturday’s 24-17 win over Arkansas, as he would talk about the plan for the Crimson Tide.

“We’ll find out here through the week,” Heupel said, via ESPN. “We get on the grass tomorrow, and we’ll work toward Saturday.”

More on the quarterback situation with the Tennessee football team

Per On3 Sports, MacIntyre and Brandon would take reps during Tuesday’s practice, though the expectation stands that the latter will be on the “initial SEC injury report as he continues to work through his shoulder injury.” Looking at how the freshman in MacIntyre played on Saturday, he threw for 247 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions, as Heupel said he was “decisive.”

“I thought he was decisive with the football,” Heupel said Monday. “He was going to the right spot and made some plays. … Collectively as a group we got to do a better job of taking care of the football.”

At any rate, it remains to be seen what Heupel and the Tennessee football team do with the quarterback situation with Brandon and MacIntyre for Saturday’s game against Alabama.
