Josh Heupel named Faizon Brandon Tennessee's starting quarterback for the Sept. 5 season opener against Furman.
Tennessee will begin the season with true freshman Faizon Brandon at quarterback. Coach Josh Heupel announced the decision as the Volunteers entered a mock game week ahead of their Sept. 5 home opener against Furman.
Brandon earned the role after three weeks of preseason camp and two scrimmages. The Greensboro, North Carolina, native went 35-1 as a high school starter and will become Tennessee's first true freshman to start an opener at quarterback since 2004.
