The first Big 12 football weekly awards of 2026 delivered an early scouting report for TCU.

While the Horned Frogs prepare to host Grambling State, several players from future conference opponents already made significant noise.

The two names that should matter most to TCU right now are West Virginia running back Cam Cook and BYU freshman receiver Legend Glasker.

Cook shared Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honors after a huge West Virginia debut.

The Jacksonville State transfer ran for 142 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries against Coastal Carolina, including a 72-yard burst on his first carry as a Mountaineer.

That matters because West Virginia visits Fort Worth on Oct. 24.

Cook forced nine missed tackles in the opener and produced 115 rushing yards before halftime. If that kind of physical running continues, TCU’s front seven will have a major assignment waiting later this season.

BYU produced two award winners the Frogs will see even sooner.

Glasker earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week after scoring three touchdowns in his college debut.

He caught three passes for 65 yards and two scores and added a 16-yard rushing touchdown in BYU’s 63-7 win over Utah Tech.

The true freshman became BYU’s first freshman with at least three touchdowns in a game since Jamaal Williams in 2012.

Then there’s Cannon DeVries, the conference’s co-Special Teams Player of the Week.

DeVries returned the second-half kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown and added 73 yards on two punt returns. That kind of explosiveness can flip a game without the offense ever taking the field.

TCU hosts BYU on Oct. 3, making the Cougars one of the first significant Big 12 tests on Sonny Dykes’ schedule.

Elsewhere, Arizona State quarterback Cutter Boley announced himself with 387 passing yards and six touchdowns, while Colorado defensive lineman Lamont Lester Jr. and Iowa State edge rusher Isaac Terrell each recorded three sacks.

Those teams aren’t on TCU’s 2026 regular-season schedule, but their performances reinforce how deep the Big 12 looks.

For the Horned Frogs, the lesson from Week 1 is already clear.

The conference race won’t wait for TCU to find itself.
