The TCU Horned Frogs fell to a 3-4 record after suffering a 24-20 Week 8 loss to the West Virginia Mountaineers. In the midst of a tough campaign, it appears the loss led to the firing of a coach on Sonny Dykes’ staff.

Reports indicate that the Horned Frogs are letting go of offensive coordinator and offensive line coach A.J. Ricker, according to Pete Nakos of On3 Sports. TCU fires Ricker midway through his sixth season under Dykes.

“TCU has fired co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach A.J. Ricker, a source tells On3,” Nakos reported.

In seven games this year, the Horned Frogs have scored just 20 points or less five times. The only two games in which TCU scored more came in Weeks 2 (63-7 win over Grambling State) and 3 (31-7 win over Arkansas State). The program ranks 99th in the nation for total yards per game (392.3) and 101st in scoring (23.4 points per game) out of 138 FBS teams this season.

It’s said that Gordon Sammis will step in as the team’s interim offensive coordinator for the remainder of the campaign, per Horned Frog Blitz (an affiliate of 247 Sports). Meanwhile, Ryan Swingle will fill in as the offensive line coach.

“OC Gordon Sammis and Ryan Swingle, assistant OL coach, will take over that position group,” Horned Frog Blitz said on X.

Sammis and Swingle will get a chance to prove themselves first in Week 9 when TCU takes on the Kansas Jayhawks at home. They’ll have five games with the Horned Frogs before the end of the regular season under head coach Sonny Dykes.
