Oklahoma State Cowboys quarterback Drew Mestemaker (17) throws a pass during a college football game between the Oklahoma State Cowboys (OSU) and the Colorado Buffaloes at Boone Pickens Stadium in Stillwater, Okla., Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026. Oklahoma State won 57-24.

Drew Mestemaker had a little bit of everything in Oklahoma State’s win over Kansas State on Saturday. He threw four touchdown passes, ran for another score, and even caught a touchdown pass. He also made some history, taking a school record from former Cowboys quarterback Mason Rudolph.

Mestemaker threw for 313 yards in the 66-28 victory, marking his eighth consecutive game with at least 300 passing yards. That broke Rudolph’s Oklahoma State record and gave PFN draft analysts Ian Cummings and Brandon Astreicher another reason to view the 20-year-old as a potential No. 1 overall pick in 2027.

Drew Mestemaker Breaks Mason Rudolph’s Oklahoma State Record

Rudolph had held the record with seven consecutive 300-yard passing games across the 2016 and 2017 seasons. Mestemaker moved past him in one season, completing 22 of 28 passes against Kansas State to extend his streak to eight games.

Saturday’s performance also gave Mestemaker a Big 12 single-season record for consecutive games with at least 300 passing yards and multiple touchdowns.

Oklahoma State recognized the milestone in an X post after the game, writing, “Drew stands alone. Most consecutive 300-yard passing games in Oklahoma State history.”

The 5-yard receiving touchdown that Mestemaker caught put him in even rarer company.

According to Oklahoma State, he became the fifth FBS player to throw at least four touchdown passes, run for a score, and catch one in the same game. Texas quarterback Arch Manning was the most recent to accomplish the feat, doing so against Arkansas in 2025.

Mestemaker’s record-breaking streak is new territory for Oklahoma State, but he was putting up big numbers before arriving in Stillwater. He led the FBS in passing yards at North Texas in 2025 and won the Burlsworth Trophy. Now a redshirt sophomore, he has also thrown for at least 200 yards in 24 consecutive games.

NFL Draft Analysts Put Mestemaker in the QB1 Conversation

Cummings talked about the variety of throws on Mestemaker’s film when explaining why he believes the quarterback’s production can translate to the NFL.

“There are translatable NFL-caliber reps all across his film, from back-shoulder dimes and bucket throws to middle-field darts, off-platform rips, and anticipatory gambles,” Cummings said. “He continues to solidify the best case for QB1 in the 2027 NFL Draft.”

The PFN analyst sees a quarterback who can make throws at different levels of the field, deliver with anticipation, and stay accurate when forced off his spot. Those traits have helped put Mestemaker in the conversation for the top pick, even with another season of college football potentially ahead of him.

Astreicher was just as high on the Oklahoma State quarterback.

“Drew Mestemaker is a star in the making,” he said. “Move over Jeremiah Smith, here’s the real No. 1 pick.”

Mestemaker still has a decision to make about entering the 2027 draft, and there is more football to play before then.

But after breaking an Oklahoma State record and earning praise from two draft analysts, Mestemaker has given NFL teams a reason to keep watching.
