Texas A&M's 2026 season opener is exactly a week away, as coach Mike Elko kicks off his third year at the helm with plenty of momentum after leading the Aggies to their first appearance in the College Football Playoff, while finishing 11-2 with just one loss in conference play. However, losing to Texas for a second straight season, combined with falling to Miami in the first round of the CFP, means that just making the tournament will never be good enough.

This offseason, before a record 10 players were selected in the 2026 NFL Draft, 65% of the 2025 roster returned, paired with 17 transfer portal additions, and the 2026 signing class made its way to College Station, making up a revamped roster that is filled to the brim with NFL-level talent at nearly every position.

Entering his second full starting season, redshirt junior quarterback Marcel Reed is coming off his career year under center, but committed four of his twelve interceptions in both losses to Texas and Miami, clouding his 3,169 passing yards and 25 touchdowns. This offseason, Reed's work with private QB coach Jeff Christensen has paid off, as the Tennessee native's accuracy, touch, and decision-making have earned praise from the coaching staff during all 16 preseason practices.

Throwing to an elite wide receiver corps led by Mario Craver, and now featuring transfer Isaiah Horton, combined with an intriguing running back room, will certainly help in Reed's journey towards improvement. A&M's revamped offensive line, featuring four new starters, will test the offense's consistency early in the season, while the Aggies' reloaded defensive line and deep secondary continue to look like predominant strengths.
