South Carolina football arrived with three losses and very much out of the College Football Playoff race. This despite manhandling Florida two weeks earlier. But now coach Shane Beamer and company just put Tennessee’s CFP hopes on thin ice.

The Gamecocks pulled the stunner in the Palmetto State 27-24, leading to this moment for their fans. Even star quarterback LaNorris Sellers had trouble doing his postgame interview.

Beamer even hit this milestone in taking down a ranked SEC foe: Beating a top 25 team through a walk-off field goal.

Placekicker Malik Orsan booted the 48-yarder that forced fans out of their seats and celebrating with the Gamecocks. But that winning field goal became set up thanks to a costly Volunteers miscue.

Quarterback George MacIntyre took a sack but lost control of the football, leading to a South Carolina fumble recovery. That play went to official’s review to determine if MacIntyre was moving his arm forward, signaling incomplete pass. But the call got upheld, swinging the football back to South Carolina’s way.

South Carolina took advantage, only needing to move the football four yards in four plays to set up the walk off victory.

The Gamecocks clamped down on defense after the Vols outscored South Carolina 21-3 in the second quarter. South Carolina bottled Tennessee to just a field goal the rest of the way.

Sellers carried the offensive load with 210 passing yards but added 96 yards rushing with two touchdowns. This now becomes his biggest win of the season in toppling the 11th ranked team in the nation.

Now the Vols’ loss places them at 5-2 overall and facing potential elimination from the 12-team CFP race. And the Vols recently celebrated the trouncing of Alabama to raise their postseason chances.
