SEC Nation was black on The Plains on Saturday before the big Auburn-LSU showdown, but a South Carolina mention almost derailed the entire show.
The SEC Network morning college football show was broadcasting outside Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday when the conversation turned to the SEC showdown between the Tennessee Volunteers and South Carolina Gamecocks. Analyst Chase Daniel passionately explained why South Carolina was favored to beat the No. 11 Vols.
Beware Tennessee fans…Cocktober is REAL for South Carolina
These guys couldn’t even get through that conversation without losing it…immature!! https://t.co/GYzqFQxX4L

“We’re sitting here in the meetings yesterday, we’re talking about this game, and we’re all thinking like, ‘Hey, why in the world does Vegas have South Carolina favored?” Daniel asked. “Well, boys, you know what it is, right? It’s Cocktober. It is Cocktober, and they are coming out for it all.”
With that, Daniel’s studio mates, host Matt Barrie, analyst Roman Harper, and analyst Tim Tebow, began trying to keep it together after Daniel hit the “Cocktober” name hard. Some did better than others.
Tebow initially buried his head in his hands before composing himself. However, Daniel simply saw this as a challenge.
“We forget about Sandstorm, the home environment. They whipped Florida, all these things. LaNorris Sellers, to me, you look how he played, two weeks ago in Cocktober,” said Daniel while directing it at Tebow. “It was good!”
With that, Tebow devoutly buried his head once more as he felt a Life Surge of comedy, and the SEC Nation production crew had a field day catching everyone trying to contain themselves.
“You guys are laughing. I don’t know why,” continued Daniel, who was fully committed to the bit. “But you can absolutely continue Cocktober going into next weekend and Halloween.”
“Can you stop saying Cocktober, by the way?” Barrie pleaded to a bemused Daniel, while Harper and Tebow couldn’t get it together. Eventually, even Barrie succumbed to the silliness before the crew finally pulled it together.
Perhaps the best part is something off-screen saying, “This is a kid’s show,” amid all the laughter.
The whole thing was silly and juvenile, but it made a worthwhile point: the knowingness of the stupidity, and the appreciation for how dumb it all was, made it charming. It’s the kind of thing certain analysts on other Saturday morning college football shows might want to consider when they do their schtick and wonder why people don’t seem to like it.
