The Aggies showed stretches of very competitive football on Saturday, moreso than they have for much of this season. But the end result was the same, crumpling in the 4th quarter en route to a 31-20 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide. Let’s take a look at some of the stats.

Sailent Stats

  • 0: 4th quarter 1st down for A&M. Whatever it is that was working early on, Bama clearly figured it out, because the offense in the final stretch looked as hapless as they have for much of this season.
  • 1: 4th down snap when there wasn’t even a play called. How? Just how?
  • 2: Second half carries for RB KJ Edwards. After looking highly effective early, Edwards reportedly got a leg contusion that limited him the rest of the way. His absence visibly hampered the A&M offense.
  • 4:00: The time left on the clock when Mike Elko decided to punt on 4th down when the Aggies were down two scores. I don’t care what the rationale is, that is conceding the loss and trying to not get blown out and you won’t convince me otherwise.
  • 5-6: Minutes of hope we had that maybe A&M was actually going to try something different at QB before seeing Marcel Reed trot back out there despite Brady Hart warming up on the sideline.
  • 23.9: Marcel Reed’s QBR for the day. Only six P4 QBs had a worse rating in Week 8.
  • 156: Receiving yards for Alabama’s Rico Scott. It’s the third time this season the Aggies have given up 150+ yards to one receiver.
  • 0: Reason to expect this team will get bowl-eligible. At least we can enjoy watching David Olano and Tyler White be elite.
