Predicting SEC college football scores in Week 2: Stage is set for Ohio State-Texas

Week 2 will offer some big-time matchups in the SEC. We will get one in-conference game that features Alabama vs. Kentucky, and then there are two monster games revolving around SEC vs. Big Ten.

We are going to preview three of the games and then give our final score for the rest in a quick-hit style.

No. 11 Oklahoma vs. Michigan

The Oklahoma Sooners dominated Michigan last season in Norman and, after what we saw last weekend, it could be the same result on Saturday. John Mateer is healthy for Oklahoma and he’s going to affect the game in both the ground game and through the air.

Can Michigan really look that bad? It’s possible, but there are bound to be improvements by the Wolverines, and that starts with their QB Bryce Underwood. Week 1 proved it appears to be a one-year rebuild for Kyle Whittingham, but as the line shows, this game will be closer than many think.

Final score: Oklahoma 24, Michigan 20

No. 12 Alabama vs. Kentucky

This will be a good litmus test for both new QBs. Alabama’s Keelon Russell was extremely impressive in Week 1 against East Carolina, throwing for 256 yards and rushing for 86 yards in Alabama’s 48-10 win. The true freshman will have a more difficult test this weekend going up against Kentucky in his first road game as a starter.

Kentucky also has a new signal-caller. Kenny Minchey threw for 301 yards in the Wildcats’ 45-13 win over Youngstown State. The Crimson Tide’s defense is certainly a major upgrade over what he faced last weekend. While Kentucky could play tough for a quarter, Alabama is going to be too much.

Final score: Alabama 31, Kentucky 13

No. 1 Ohio State vs. No. 4 Texas

One year ago, Arch Manning couldn’t find his footing against Ohio State in Columbus. The Buckeyes would end up winning that game 14-7 in a defensive affair. But both offenses have come a long way since last year.

Manning appears to have come into his own, but we are going to see on Saturday. As for Ohio State, Julian Sayin has the best cast of characters around in Jeremiah Smith, Brandon Inniss, and Brandon McCuin. The Longhorns’ defense will have to show up in this game.

A lot like last year, this game will likely come down to the final possession, but there should be some more fireworks than 21 total points scored. Austin is going to be rocking and Texas is going to be tough to beat in that environment.

Final score: Texas 27, Ohio State 24
