Sep. 16—Jacoby Bamforth combined for 282 yards of offense and five touchdowns and Slade Segovia rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns on six carries as the Portales Rams blew out host Santa Teresa 56-6 in a non-district game on Sept. 10.

Bamforth threw for 215 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions on 10-of-17 passing, and rushed for 67 yards on eight carries including a score.

Joseph Keita had a game-high 137 yards receiving and two touchdowns on three catches and Nevan Cordova had three catches for 40 yards including a score.

Portales led Santa Teresa 41-0 at the half.

The Rams — winners of three-straight — combined for five sacks led by G'Toris Dawson who had two.

Tripp Hamilton, Donovan Lucero and Ricky Segovia each had a sack.

Xzavier Jones led Portales with 11 tackles including three for losses and a fumble recovery while Declan Martin and Lucero each had nine with Martin adding a fumble recovery.

After dropping their season-opener to West Las Vegas, the Rams have outscored their opponents by a combined 163-12.

Portales (3-1) will begin 4A District 2 play on Friday when it hosts Lovington (1-3) at 7 p.m.

Volcano Vista 50, Clovis 0: Volcano Vista led by 44 points at halftime and ended the game with the mercy rule in the fourth quarter in both teams' 6A District 2 opener Sept. 11 in Albuquerque.

Junior quarterback Beau Clements combined for 72 yards of offense and Deion Chavez rushed for 52 yards on 11 carries for the Wildcats.

Clovis trailed 23-0 after the opening quarter.

Clovis (1-3 overall, 0-1 district play) will host Centennial at 7 p.m. on Friday.

River Road 29, Farwell 28: Junior Joel Juarez combined for 137 yards of offense and two touchdowns but the Farwell Steers football team fell late to visiting River Road, which spoiled Farwell's homecoming on Sept. 11.

Juarez threw for 75 yards, a touchdown and an interception and rushed for 62 yards on five carries including a touchdown.

Guyson Nickels rushed for 52 yards on three carries and David Garcia had a 6-yard rushing touchdown for the Steers.

Farwell and River Road went to the half tied 21-21.

Farwell (0-3) will host Muleshoe at 7 p.m. on Friday.

Ropes 50, Texico 8: Senior Jaivyth Cruz rushed for 227 yards and five touchdowns as the homestanding Eagles (2-0) cruised.

The loss snapped an 11-game winning streak for the three-time defending New Mexico Class 2A state champion Wolverines, dating to September of last year.

Junior quarterback Austin Hawkins completed 12-of-28 passes for 78 yards for Texico (3-1), including a scoring toss to junior Nate Autrey. Senior Jaheim Moses had six pass receptions for 26 yards for the Wolverines.

Logan 69, McLean, Texas 37: The Longhorns hit their stride in the second quarter and kept going during a non-district win Sept. 11 over highly regarded McLean, Texas, in six-man football.

Logan (2-1) led 18-12 after the first quarter and expanded its advantage by more than 20 points by halftime.

Haiden Ortega scored five touchdowns for the Longhorns, and Kale Griffiths threw for more than 300 yards, Logan coach Dwayne Roberts said.

"Offensively, we moved the ball on every possession. They might have stopped us once," Roberts said.

Roberts said his team has improved immensely since a season-opening 48-0 loss to Mountainair last month.

"We're starting to really come together as a team," he said. "Everybody's kind of figuring out their positions. From Week One till now is just a totally different team just because everybody has learned their spot. It's just awesome to watch the improvement each week."

McLean fell to 2-1. MaxPreps.com had not issued six-man football rankings going into the game, but Roberts expects them to rate highly.

"That McLean team was a good team. They're liable to go quite a ways in Texas," he said.

Logan next travels to Floyd (1-1) for its district opener at 1 p.m. Friday.

Grady 55, Cloudcroft 0: Senior Gavin West returned the opening kickoff 65 yards for a touchdown and the 6-man Bronchos made short work of the homestanding 8-man Bears (2-2), ending the game at halftime on the 50-point mercy rule.

West's return was one of three special teams tallies for the Bronchos (3-0), the others coming when senior Madden Flood blocked a Bears punt and freshman Abrama Ruvalcaba recovered it in the end zone and on a 54-yard punt return by senior Noah Stanfield.

Senior Caden Croy ran 3 yards for a Grady score and had TD passes of 3 and 23 yards to senior Zander Ciancio. West and Stanfield added scoring runs of 3 and 6 yards, respectively.

Dora 57, Elida JV 6: Senior Carson Kircher scored five touchdowns and the Coyotes breezed to their first win in three games, ending it at halftime on the mercy rule.

Kircher's first TD came on a 20-yard interception return in the opening stanza. He then added scoring runs of 5, 40, 30 and 39 yards.

Sophomore Preston Williamson connected on a 33-yard TD toss with sophomore Gryder Tipton for the game's first points. Junior Isaac Jasso got the last touchdown for the Coyotes on a 20-yard fumble return.

The lone score for the Elida JV came on a 2-yard pass play from freshman Jefferson Woodruff to his brother, junior Joel Woodruff.

Sanford-Fritch 24, Bovina 20: At Fritch, Texas, junior Bryan Wysong rushed for 179 yards and scored twice in the final two minutes as the Eagles (2-1) handed Bovina (2-1) its first loss of the campaign.

Trailing 20-8, Wysong capped a four-play, 51-yard drive on a 3-yard scoring run with 1:56 left. Wysong returned a kickoff 27 yards and broke off a 33-yard run to the Mustangs' 14 to set up the tally.

Sanford-Fritch then recovered an onside kick and went 45 yards in seven plays, with Wysong going in from the 2 with 26 seconds to go.

Kyle Henderson gave the Eagles an 8-0 lead on a 12-yard run and a 2-point conversion run with 26 seconds left in the half. Bovina grabbed a 12-8 lead after three frames on an 81-yard pass from senior Matt Espinoza to senior Elijah Rocha and a 34-yard run by senior Reed Packebush in the third quarter, and made it 20-8 with just under four minutes left on Espinoza's 44-yard run and his 2PAT run.

Espinoza finished with 79 yards rushing and 114 passing for the Mustangs, who outgained the Eagles 298-282 in total offense.
