ESPN’s “College GameDay” makes a lot of regular stops at SEC schools. However, one big-time Big Ten program has been neglected for nearly two decades, and Pat McAfee‘s hinting at a return.

McAfee and the popular college football show are at Tennessee this weekend for the Volunteers’ huge matchup against Texas. The sports media personality suggests that a trip to the Midwest could be happening in Week 5.

The Iowa Hawkeyes and their fans haven’t seen “College GameDay” on-campus since 2006. However, McAfee says a win on Saturday over Michigan could make that dream a reality for the Big Ten program.

“Iowa hasn’t had a GameDay in like 100 years,” McAfee teased during Week 4’s visit to Knoxville. “If they were to beat Michigan, next week we would certainly be traveling to Iowa City.”

The No. 17 ranked Hawkeyes have already won their in-state rivalry with Iowa State and taken down Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa this season.

Meanwhile, Week 4’s test against the Wolverines has major implications for Iowa. ESPN’s covered many Hawkeyes games over the years, but it’s been many years since “GameDay” showed up to Iowa City’s Kinnick Stadium.

Sept. 30, 2006 is the last time Iowa football fans had the chance to take in the unique pregame show. That day saw the Hawkeyes fall to No. 1 Ohio State during a 38-17 beatdown.

The 2019 and 2021 seasons have seen the program cover the Cy-Hawk Trophy matchup between Iowa and Iowa State. Those “GameDay” appearances both came in Ames, though, with country musician Eric Church and actor Ashton Kutcher making celebrity picks.

Next week’s matchup for Iowa features the 2-1 Buckeyes coming to town with Heisman Trophy hopefuls Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith leading the team.
