Opening Odds: Mizzou slightly favored over Texas A&M

Not to be a downer… but I’m not sure how you top a regular season game like that.

Mizzou put a historic beatdown on Florida to celebrate the school’s 115th Homecoming in what might be the signature regular season win of the Eli Drinkwitz era. Detractors will say, “Muh, Florida was overrated.” And that can be true. But this is the same Florida team that put a similar beating on Ole Miss the week before. SEC Football is different week-to-week, but wins over Top 10 teams tend to be indicative of a team’s quality.

Speaking of football being different week-to-week! Even after putting Florida to the sword on Saturday, Mizzou opens as a very slight favorite over Mike Elko and Texas A&M in Week 6, with FanDuel putting the line at 3.5 points. The Aggies are having a disappointing season, and Elko might be feeling some heat on his chair. They recovered yesterday to put a hurting on Arkansas, but a home loss to Kentucky and a road beatdown at LSU have the Aggies resetting expectations for the rest of the season. That being said, they may see a road win over Mizzou as a ticket back to CFP conversation – it’s a longshot, but you never know! – and Mizzou will have to focus up after an emotional Homecoming weekend.

SEC games to watch in Week 6:

  • Texas A&M at No. 14 Missouri (-3.5), O/U 49.5

  • No. 9 Ole Miss (-9.5) at Vanderbilt, O/U 57.5
  • No. 1 Texas (-8.5) at Oklahoma, O/U 40.5
  • No. 15 Tennessee (-13.5) at Arkansas, O/U 50.5
  • No. 10 LSU (-10.5) at Kentucky, O/U 55.5
  • No. 2 Georgia (-1.5) at No. 6 Alabama, O/U 57.5
