Ole Miss football entered Saturday night with a chance to establish themselves near the top of the college football rankings and put themselves in great position to make the College Football Playoff. Unfortunately for Pete Golding and the Rebels, they were unable to overcome a massive first-half hole in what ended up as a 34-27 loss to Texas on the road.
Ole Miss fell behind 24-3 at halftime after being dominated in all three phases of the game. Star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss had two interceptions that hurt the Rebels during the first half, and Ole Miss was unable to make it all the way back and get the win despite a very good second half.
After the game, Chambliss was unhappy with his own performance and took accountability for the crucial turnovers that helped dig Ole Miss into that first half hole, via Sam Hutchens of the Clarion Ledger.

“Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss said it was ‘unacceptable’ for the Rebels to score three in the first half, and it falls on him,” Hutchens reported on X, formerly Twitter.
Chambliss threw a third interception on a Hail Mary at the end of the game, and finished 25-of-52 with 250 yards and two touchdowns to go with those three picks.
Ole Miss now has two losses on the season and has no margin for error left if it wants to make it back to the College Football Playoff and make another run at a national title. Even with some more difficult games remaining on the schedule, Chambliss knows that Ole Miss has to keep winning the rest of the way to keep their goals on the table.
“We’ve got to win out,” Chambliss said, via Hutchens.
Ole Miss has a game against Auburn on Halloween before welcoming Georgia to Oxford on Nov. 7 in a game that could determine how the rest of their season might go. Running back Kewan Lacy left Saturday’s game with an injury, so Chambliss will have to carry an even heavier burden until his star backfield-mate is back.
