The Oklahoma Sooners are set to take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs in Week 8 of the 2026 college football season. Oklahoma enters the game at 3-3 and 1-2 in SEC play. The Sooners lost 21-13 to Kentucky a week ago in a game where John Mateer threw three interceptions in the final 16 minutes of game action.

Mississippi State is 4-2 and 2-2 in SEC play after their 31-0 loss to LSU last week. The loss to the Tigers came without starting quarterback Kamario Taylor and starting running back Fluff Bothwell. With both Bulldogs stars in the game, Mississippi State averages 39 points per game this season.

For Oklahoma, this is an opportunity to build on what they put on the field in the first three quarters of their loss to Kentucky. Mississippi State ranks No. 111 in points per game allowed this season and 127th in the nation in passing yards allowed per game.

The Sooners' defense, which has played well enough to win all season, will be put to the test against the Bulldogs. If they can keep Mississippi State's speedy wide receivers from creating big plays in the passing game and continue to play well on the ground, the Sooners have a shot at a bounceback win in Starkville.

Oklahoma vs. Mississippi State Game Day Availability Report

02:55 PM ET, October 24 2026, John Williams

For the first time since Week 1, projected starting left tackle Michael Fasusi will be available for the Oklahoma Sooners. With Ryan Fodje, who started the last five games at left tackle ruled out earlier in the week, expect Fasusi to return to his spot on John Mateer's blindside.

Guard Heath Ozaeta is also available to play this week. He could take back his spot at right guard, where he started in the Sooners' win over Texas. Peyton Joseph could also start at guard again.

Starting corner Eli Bowen and starting wide receiver Elijah Thomas will be out for this week as well, meaning Trystan Haynes will make his third consecutive start since taking over before the Texas game. With Thomas out, Parker Livingstone will have a chance to get back into the starting lineup for Oklahoma's offense.

Mississippi State welcomes back starting quarterback Kamario Taylor and Fluff Bothwell. Both players missed the Bulldogs 31-0 loss to LSU and are critical to Mississippi State's offensive success.

  • Oklahoma 20, Mississippi State 17: This is arguably the biggest test for the Oklahoma Sooners defense since they played the Georgia Bulldogs. With Kamario Taylor and Fluff Bothwell expected to play, the defense will have its hands full with the Bulldogs offense. But Brent Venables has one of the best defenses in the nation at his disposal.
