Coach Brent Venables’ Oklahoma Sooners have lost two straight games to arch-rival Texas and are moving on without a former four-star receiver ahead of Week 6’s game against the Longhorns. Offensive tackle Michael Fasusi got an injury update earlier this week that looked troublesome and has gotten worse as the big game draws near.

Pete Thamel revealed the latest news on Fasusi’s situation and it wasn’t good.

“More bad news for Oklahoma. Michael Fasusi officially out and starting lineman Eddy Pierre-Louis is now doubtful,” Thamel revealed.

Fasusi is a native of Lewisville, Texas who signed in 2024 and enrolled in early 2025. A five-star prospect out of high school, he was expected to help protect Oklahoma QB John Mateer in one of the biggest games of his life, and to pave the way for the Oklahoma running game. Pierre-Louis is another key part of the OU offensive line as an interior lineman who can help keep Texas’ large defensive tackles from pressing up field and getting into Mateer’s face.

Mateer, last season’s Heisman candidate, has become a scapegoat in some circles after throwing four interceptions in his last three games. Former Georgia star David Pollack called Mateer “broken” recently, leading fans to wonder if the OU quarterback could be replaced at some point.

Having a depleted offensive line is not a good situation on paper, but Mateer’s scrambling skills and ability to make something out of nothing on broken plays give him a great chance to shock the world against the Longhorns. Oklahoma is looking down but their rivalry against Texas is something that goes beyond the record books, and a great chance for Mateer and the rest of the OU offense to show they can rise to the occasion and pick up their fallen teammates.
