The No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes scored a notable win off the field just before a highly anticipated matchup against the No. 4 Texas Longhorns. Ohio State football reportedly landed the commitment of Class of 2028 tight end Luke Sohyda, according to Hayes Fawcett of On3.

“Excited to be a part of the Brotherhood!” Sohyda said, per Fawcett, who also noted that the tight end chose Ohio State football after offers from the likes of the Maryland Terrapins, Pittsburgh Panthers and NC State Wolfpack.

The three-star Sohyda is from Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, and stands 6-foot-4 and weighs 250 pounds. A Canon-McMillan High School star, Sohyda is also a multi-sport athlete. According to his 247 Sports profile, he “competes in throwing events and has played hockey.”

On the football field, he’s also shown the ability to play both defense and offense, having seen snaps on defense and as an offensive tackle. In 2025, he posted 40 tackles, including three tackles for loss, 13 quarterback hits, four pass breakups and a sack.

As it stands, Ohio State football has five total commits for 2028, including three five-stars, one four-star and one three-star.

Meanwhile, the Buckeyes will be going after more success on Saturday when they venture into enemy territory to play Texas at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin.

This will be both teams’ first real test of the season after each took care of business against overmatched opponents last weekend. The Buckeyes are coming off a 56-3 drubbing of the Ball State Cardinals, while the Longhorns secured their first win of the season by walloping the Texas State Bobcats, 59-7.
