There's been lots of talk surrounding empty seats during college football games, especially on Halloween, but what's worse than that?

The seats emptying.

Prime example: what unfolded in The Shoe in Week 10.

That's just the state of affairs in the Buckeye State, where there may have been more than 102,000 in the stands for the "Scarlet Out," but not many of them to stick around in what may be the lowest point in some time for Ohio State.

O-H... Oh no!

Times are tough for Ryan Day and company, and with the calendar flipping to November in the final stretch of the season, this is not where you'd want to be: in the Flop 10.

Ohio State

The reasoning for an empty 'Shoe was quite damaging. Coming off a second loss of the season, Ohio State needed to beatdown an equally disappointing Oregon team and restore confidence back in the Buckeyes.

It was far from that.

After jumping out to a 14-0 lead, Oregon used a fake punt to kickstart 38 consecutive points to rout Ohio State in its own home, winning 41-28 to effectively kill any chance at the College Football Playoff. With three losses, Ohio State has its worst season under Ryan Day, and wasting one last chance with Jeremiah Smith.

Ducks coach Dan Lanning was glad to let Ohio State know what was going on.

It bears repeating again; O-H... Oh no!

Heisman Trophy frontrunner

Speaking of Smith, who is going to win the Heisman Trophy?

All of the award frontrunners have lost their edge with Smith's team falling off a cliff, Miami's Malachi Toney out for the regular season and quarterback Darian Mensah unable to lead a win against Notre Dame. Then there's Oregon State's Jesse Legree, going through the same thing as Smith with the Beavers dropping back-to-back games.

There's only a few weeks left in the season and we have zero idea who's going to take home — or who actually deserves — the top individual prize in college football. A sad state of affairs.

Kentucky karma

It's been a fun time for football in Lexington, so much so, you may say it's took over basketball for a time period. The top 10 Wildcats were going into Tennessee and decided to feel confident on the road by desecrating the Vols' famed Rock to blue with Kentucky's logo and "Stein Time" painted on one side, and "#BBN Big Blue Rock" on the other side.

The result? A 34-6 stomp from Rocky Top.

It was a bold decision for Kentucky, and it did not pay off. Maybe a lesson learned in trying to handle this good at football thing, and the Volunteers let the Wildcats know with a postgame troll.

Texas A&M

There's been a trend in college football for road teams to try and build hype when the home team takes part in traditions, similar to what UCLA did with "Shout" against Oregon. It's a bold move that can get a team going, but it's really embarrassing if it doesn't do much.

That's what happened with Texas A&M.

The Aggies tried to build excitement with South Carolina's famed "Sandstorm" played in the stadium ahead of the fourth quarter, up 9-7.

Texas A&M ended up not scoring the rest of the game, as a hobbled LaNorris Sellers used everything he had left to make it four straight wins for the Gamecocks, and send the Aggies to a dismal 4-5 record in another low for Mike Elko.

Mike Locksley

The end of Locksley's tenure at Maryland was a long time coming, with the Terrapins needing a fresh start.

Sadly, Locksley got to see that page get turned.

Maryland finally got a Big Ten victory, beating Purdue on the road to snap a 13-game losing streak in conference play. It was a fantastic job Aazaar Abdul-Rahim should be proud of, and when the game coverage ended on Big Ten Network, it cut to the studio crew.

With none other than Locksley.

At least he was a good sport about it, but rough to see good things happen once you're out.

Ole Miss

It's not fun seeing a team like Georgia come into your stadium and completely dominate to a 42-7 win, but when things are going bad, you got to keep your cool.

Already down 21-0 and after a controversial pass interference didn't go the Rebels way, fans reacted by throwing things on the field, because we haven't learned the lesson that's not a good thing to do.

When shall we ever learn?

Offense in Michigan

USA TODAY's Austin Curtright tried to warn everybody that Michigan vs. Michigan State was going to feature some atrocious offense.

What's crazy is he may have undersold it.

In a game you shouldn't let children watch, the battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy was a game that set the sport back centuries, with a whopping six field goals kicked and one touchdown. The Wolverines got the donut off the scoreboard with 95 seconds left to avoid the shutout.

Spartans fans are happy to have gotten the best of their in-state rival, but that's as far as the pride goes for what was an ugly game.

Tulane

No sugar coating it: there was nothing good about Tulane's 60-10 home loss to Tulsa that dropped the Green Wave to 4-5. But it was so bad, athletic director David Harris was moved enough to put out a full statement on the loss, calling it "unacceptable."

"I am embarrassed by what transpired on the field in front of our student-athletes' families, alumni, fans and the entire Tulane community. While any loss is difficult to accept, today's defeat was particularly alarming given the point differential. Our play was not representative of the work, discipline and sacrifice made by those who established the standard we expect from Tulane Football," he wrote.

First-year coach Will Hall wasn't fired, but this is about the closest you can get without it happening. Hoping it serves as a wake up call for a guy in charge of a program used to winning.

TCU

Really, the shenanigans of Week 10 began on Friday, Nov. 6 thanks to some late night football. TCU was on the cusp of upsetting Arizona after it stopped a 2-point conversion attempt with under two minutes to lead 28-26. All it needed was to get the ball and the run the clock out.

Plans went sideways.

On the ensuing kickoff, Arizona's Ian French caught the Horned Frogs napping with a pooch kick that Ed Small couldn't recover, paving the way for Arizona's Zuri Watson to sprint to the ball and recover it. It set up the go-ahead field goal with the Wildcats up 29-28 with 39 seconds to go, and when TCU got the ball back, it tossed a game-sealing interception.

A rapid turn of events is the latest downfall in Fort Worth.

Northern Illinois

If you haven't won a game by November, you deserve permanent residency in the Flop 10. There's only one team worthy of it, and that is frequent member Northern Illinois.

The Huskies remain the only winless team in FBS, losing to San Jose State (in a Mountain West game) 30-19 to drop to 0-9. After it was tied at 13 a piece in the second quarter, the Spartans rattled off 17 straight points to pull away until a late touchdown by the Huskies brought the score closer.

Not only that, but NIU owns the longest FBS losing streak in the country at 11 games, dating back to last season. Here's to hoping it gets off this island of irrelevancy by beating Nevada, North Dakota State or UTEP in the final three games.
