Notre Dame earned yet another dominant victory this weekend and it vaulted the Irish up the USA TODAY Coaches Poll. Notre Dame moved up to No. 2 in the latest rankings after its 58-7 win over the Stanford Cardinal. The Irish also earned their 16th straight win, all by double digits.

Notre Dame has not been ranked as high as No. 2 in the regular season since the end of the 2020 season. The Irish did finish the 2024 season ranked No. 2 in the Coaches Poll, but that didn't happen until after the College Football Playoff, which included victories over Indiana, Georgia and Penn State.

Notre Dame has the second longest win streak in college football, trailing only Indiana, the defending national champions who have won 22 straight games.

The Irish jumped up to No. 2 thanks in part to the Texas Longhorns getting upset by the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry. Texas fell 27-24 to the Sooners, and also fell to No. 6 in the latest USA TODAY Coaches Poll.

Notre Dame's victory over Stanford and BYU's 24-10 victory over Iowa State on Friday sets up a Top 10 battle next weekend. The Irish will hit the road next weekend to square off against the Cougars, who remained No. 8 in the latest USA TODAY Sports Top 25 ranking. Notre Dame still has two more future opponents in the latest rankings. Miami moved up to No. 3 this weekend despite being off. The Irish and Hurricanes play on November 7th. SMU fell to No. 22 during their bye week, and they will head to South Bend on November 21st to take the Irish for the first time since 1989.

No. 15 Florida, No. 23 Duke and No. 24 Pittsburgh all dropped out of the Top 25. Pittsburgh lost to North Carolina, who the Irish beat 37-26 last weekend. Oklahoma State jumped in at No. 20, Wake Forest jumped in at No. 23 and Boise State jumped in at No. 24.
