The No. 1 team in the country has lost in back-to-back weeks.
Just seven days after taking down No. 6 Alabama to move up to the top spot in the AP Top 25, Georgia QB Gunner Stockton turned the ball over three times and the Tigers got a field goal as time expired for a 27-24 win.
Alex McPherson's game-winning kick was set up by a Stockton fumble. After the Georgia defense gave the Bulldogs a chance to win, Stockton fumbled the ball while running into the back of center Drew Bobo with 58 seconds to go.

McPherson's 34-yard kick was also 15 yards shorter than it could have been thanks to Gabe Harris' roughing the passer penalty on Auburn QB Byrum Brown with 14 seconds to go. It was the third personal foul by a Georgia player.
The Bulldogs went up to No. 1 after Texas lost to an unranked rival in Oklahoma. On Saturday, it was Auburn's turn to play the role of top-spot spoiler. It was the Tigers' first win in the annual series since 2017 and that victory marks the first time since 1990 that the No. 1 team in the AP poll has lost to an unranked opponent in back-to-back weeks.
Auburn scored 24 straight points to take a 24-14 lead on a Brown TD run. As the Tigers scored four times in six possessions, Georgia had three punts, two interceptions and a missed field goal on its six meaningful drives after scoring touchdowns on its first two possessions.
It was a rough game for Stockton, who had produced one of the best games of his career in Georgia's win over Alabama. A week ago, Stockton was 18-of-22 passing for 249 yards and threw a TD and an interception while also rushing for a score. Saturday, he was 22-of-34 passing for 272 yards with two passing touchdowns to go with his three turnovers.
Auburn's biggest win in years
Can Auburn fans start to have some optimism? It's been a rough stretch for the Tigers with five straight losing seasons since Gus Malzahn was fired near the end of a 6-5 campaign in 2020.
Alex Golesh was hired after the 2025 season following Hugh Freeze's firing with three games left in the season. Freeze succeeded Bryan Harsin, who made it just 21 games before he was fired.
Before Saturday, Auburn hadn't beaten a ranked opponent since the end of the 2024 season when it shocked No. 15 Texas A&M 43-41. That was the team's first win over a ranked opponent since Auburn beat then-No. 10 Ole Miss in 2021.
Yes, it's been a rough stretch on the Plains as teams like Missouri and Vanderbilt have posted double-digit win seasons in that span while Auburn has floundered.
But you can now start to see how Auburn can crawl its way into the crowded middle of the SEC. Especially if it can get another win in October. The Tigers have No. 22 LSU in Week 8 before hosting No. 9 Ole Miss on Halloween.
Georgia, meanwhile, has squandered the big advantage it earned with that Alabama win. Every team in the SEC now has at least one conference loss, while seven teams have two losses. If you want to try to decipher the conference at the halfway point of the season, good luck. It's truly become unpredictable.
