Coach Eli Drinkwitz’s Missouri Tigers are 6-2 on the season and slight underdogs against Texas in Week 10 action. The Tigers tied with three other teams for fifth place in the SEC, a half-game behind the Ole Miss Rebels and Alabama Crimson Tide for fourth place. Quarterback Austin Simmons has wowed fans with insane throws this season and now has a chance to announce himself on the national stage against Arch Manning and the Longhorns.
On November 6, ESPN writer Pete Thamel shared a Simmons announcement that will keep him in Columbia, Missouri for the foreseeable future.
“Sources: Missouri has re-signed quarterback Austin Simmons for the 2027 season, which would bring back a player who projects as one of the faces of the sport. By signing now, Simmons’ return allows the staff at Missouri to retain and recruit a top roster.”

Simmons is a 6-foot-4, 220-pound senior from Miami, Florida who has passed for nearly 2,000 yards (1,952) this season. He has 16 touchdown passes against just two interceptions, although his completion percentage (63.3%) needs plenty of improvement.
The Tigers are making noise about getting the gang back together for next season as Drinkwitz recently shot down Florida State coaching rumors. Getting Simmons back in the fold gives the Tigers plenty of leverage on the recruiting trail and in the transfer portal, as he is a veteran with a high level of production and commitment to winning a championship in Columbia.
Whether or not it comes true is anyone’s guess, but for now, the Tigers have tons of momentum heading into their clash with the Longhorns. Beating Arch Manning and the ‘Horns could launch not only Simmons as a national star, but the entire Tigers program as one to watch in the coming weeks and months on a national scale.
