MIAMI, Fla. – While the rest of college football continues to experience chaos, the Miami Hurricanes remain ranked No. 8 in the latest Associated Press’ Top 25 poll.
A 52-23 win over the Pitt Panthers at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday keeps the Coral Gables program at the top with 59 of 69 first-place votes and 1,735 points. Meanwhile, the trickle-down effect of other game results led to other changes among the Top 25, as three ranked teams lost to unranked opponents.

The biggest upset was the No. 2 BYU falling to the UCF 39-31 at the Acrisure Bounce House in Orlando (Fla.). Knight senior quarterback Keyone Jenkins completed 25 of 41 passes (61 percent), threw for 293 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions. It marks the highest-ranked win in program history.
Although the Knights didn’t receive any AP votes, the Cougars fall to No. 8.
The No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers lost 27-24 to the South Carolina in Williams-Brice Stadium at Columbia (SC). Gamecocks star quarterback LaNorris Sellers completed 18 of 32 passes (56.3 percent), threw for 210 yards and scored three total touchdowns – one passing and two rushing.
Afterwards, the Volunteers fell to No. 16 in the rankings.
Finally, No. 8 Texas Tech fell 37-24 against Cincinnati at James Gamble Nippert Stadium. Despite Red Raiders junior quarterback Will Hammond throwing for 227 yards on a 61.5 completion percentage (24 of 39), it wasn’t enough to overcome the Bearcats’ offense, which had four playmakers score at least a touchdown.
The Red Raiders managed to stay within reach as junior safety Peyton Morgan returned an interception for a 53-yard touchdown, but two missed two-point conversions proved to be costly. The Lubbock (TX) program is slotted at No. 13.
Ohio State (No. 2), Georgia (No. 3), and Notre Dame (No. 5) were on bye weeks.
The Hurricanes have found certain stability as this college football season has gone back-to-back weekends with major upsets. Quarterback Darian Mensah and star wide receiver Malachi Toney are emerging as arguably the best offensive duo. They connected on 16 passes against Pitt for 194 of 506 total yards.

Both have a chance to be Heisman Trophy finalists and receive an invitation to New York for the award ceremony.
The Hurricanes will prepare to face head coach Bill Belichick and UNC this upcoming Saturday, with kickoff scheduled at 7:30 p.m. E.T.; network designation is currently to be determined.
