It was a great week to have an off Saturday for an ailing Miami Hurricanes team. And even without playing, the Hurricanes inched closer towards the top of the polls.
Miami moved up from No. 4 to 3 in both the AP and Coaches Polls on Sunday afternoon.
Miami moved up thanks to the Texas Longhorns falling in their annual Red River rivalry matchup against unranked Oklahoma. The Sooners moved down the field frantically after an Arch Manning interception, with Tate Sandell drilling a walk off 48-yard field goal for the 27-24 win.
Right in front of Miami is Notre Dame at 2, who drilled Stanford 58-7 in South Bend. Georgia, of course, claimed the top spot after escaping Tuscaloosa with a 20-17 over the Alabama Crimson Tide. Indiana escaped Lincoln with a 20-17 win over previously undefeated Nebraska, and Ohio State maimed Maryland 48-19 to both stay in the top five right behind the Hurricanes.
So Miami will enter their annual matchup with Florida State at 3. Even if both teams take care of business, it doesn’t seem as though Miami vs. Notre Dame will be a 1 vs. 2 matchup, as Georgia will top any poll or playoff ranking until they lose. The Bulldogs have Auburn and Florida up before a Nov. 7 matchup at Ole Miss, so don’t count on them losing.
And hey! The Canes have a win over a currently ranked team now, with Wake Forest jumping into both polls at 21/23. Wake rallied from a halftime deficit to throttle NC State on the road 38-14.
