For the second consecutive week, Minnesota Golden Gophers kicker Luke Drzewiecki has been named Big Ten Special Teams Co-Player of the Week after kicking three field goals in a 23-16 overtime loss to the Indiana Hoosiers, including an improbable career-long 60-yard field goal to give the Gophers a brief lead in the final 20 seconds.
He shares the honor with the Hoosiers’ long-distance field goal kicker and kickoff specialist Paddy McAteer, who kicked his own 60-yard field goal as time expired in regulation to send the game to overtime.
It was the first time in college football history that two opposing teams each kicked a 60-yard field goal.
Prior to his 60-yard field goal in the final minute of regulation against Indiana, Drzewiecki tied his previous career-long with a 51-yarder earlier in the fourth quarter.
He is a perfect 15-of-15 this season.
This the third time this season Drzewiecki has been honored as Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week. He was previously recognized for his performances against Washington and Iowa.
