Longhorns star named Bednarik Award Player of the Week

As week 8 of the college football season approaches, Longhorns star Rasheem Biles is making headlines. The talented linebacker earned Bednarik Award Player of the Week honors for his performance Saturday against Mississippi State. He is the second Longhorn to earn weekly Bednarik Award honors, joining Colin Simmons, who claimed the same honor on Sept. 29.

In the Longhorns' latest SEC clash, Biles had eight tackles and three sacks for 26 yards lost. He also added four tackles for a loss to his resume and continued to elevate his game as Texas was missing one of the best pass rushers in the country, Colin Simmons.

Texas LB Rasheem Biles is the old quote “got a football magnet in his helmet”

With Biles in elite form, Texas limited the Bulldogs to just 187 yards of total offense, 2.8 yards per play, and three points. Mississippi State finished the game with only 68 yards on the ground and 119 yards in the air. Coming into the game, the Bulldogs had averaged 439.1 yards per game and 6.3 yards per play.

Now that the regular season is past the halfway point, Biles ranks in the top five in multiple categories. He is second on the team in total tackles with 61 and sacks with four. His 9.5 tackles for a loss are the fourth most in the SEC, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

LB Rasheem Biles has continued to be a playmaker at the heart of the Texas defense with 4 sacks, 3 FF, and 3 INTs.

This weekend, Biles will get to build on his success when Texas faces Missouri on Saturday. That will be a good test for the Longhorns, as the Tigers are ranked No. 18 in the country. While Texas is ranked higher, they will still need Biles at his best as they look to improve their playoff resume with another win over a ranked team.
