The story of the 2026 Tennessee Volunteers certainly hasn’t been the wide receivers, but a highly-touted player popped up late in the going against Alabama and hauled in a couple of key catches. TK Keys, the five-star receiver that Tennessee flipped from LSU last recruiting cycle, got involved when things mattered the most against the Crimson Tide. It was nothing huge, but it was an example of the trust that this coaching staff has developed in the true freshman.

Keys caught two passes for 13 yards, one of which going for a big first down on Tennessee’s final touchdown drive that put the game on ice. The play came on a crucial third down and kept the clock moving to push the Volunteers to an eventual win.

Keys has played sporadically this season behind No. 3 receiver Radarious Jackson, but that could be starting to change.

“I couldn’t be more proud of TK,” Tennessee quarterback George MacIntyre said after the Alabama game. “I talked to him after the game. I told him that I am really proud of how he responded to everything. You know, he was working through injuries when he first got here, and he has earned the right to be out there in big moments, and tonight he showed that. We hit him twice, I think in the fourth quarter, yeah, the one on third down we talked about, and he has ice in his veins. The moment wasn’t too big for him, especially on the slant route; it was a contested catch against man-to-man in tight coverage against a good player, and he came down with it, so, super proud of TK.”

Keys was the No. 1 receiver in the class of 2026, ranking tenth overall in the class, according to 247Sports. He’s slowly worked his way into the rotation after battling through injuries back in the spring and summer. Now healthy, we could see Keys make an impact for Tennessee down the stretch.

It’s something Tennessee certainly could use with South Carolina, Kentucky, LSU, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt coming up to finish. The Volunteers have leaned on the rushing attack, but eventually George MacIntyre is going to be forced to make some plays through the air and down the field. Keys, along with Mike Matthews and Braylon Staley, each have the ability to make those splash plays.

South Carolina, which is stout against the run but leaky against the pass, might be the perfect opportunity to get Keys even more involved.
