Georgia Bulldogs defensive back KJ Bolden spoke about a late-game play during the team’s 20–17 win over Alabama Crimson.
The sequence involved Alabama wide receiver Rico Scott in the fourth quarter, and Bolden later shared what he would have wanted had the same situation occurred against Georgia.
KJ Bolden explains his view of the controversial no-call
Georgia defeated Alabama 20–17 on October 10, 2026. Late in the game, Georgia defensive back KJ Bolden was involved in a controversial play with Alabama wide receiver Rico Scott that did not result in a defensive pass interference penalty.
The play occurred in the fourth quarter with 3:28 remaining. Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell threw toward Scott in the end zone, and Bolden made contact with the receiver before the ball arrived. Scott did not complete the catch, but the officials did not throw a flag for defensive pass interference. Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer protested the decision from the sideline.
During an October 12 interview with WSB-TV reporter Zach Klein, Bolden was shown a video of the play. He explained that Russell was looking toward Scott, so he expected the pass to go in that direction. Bolden also said he did not like cornerback Braylon Conley’s positioning, which led him to move quickly toward the play to try to stop it. Bolden felt he arrived as the ball reached the receiver and acknowledged that opinions on the play could differ. Since none of the officials threw a flag, he felt the contact had not been judged as pass interference.
When asked what he would want if the same situation happened against Georgia, Bolden said, “I’m not gonna lie. I would want them to call pass interference.”
On the next play after the disputed pass, Bolden blitzed and sacked Russell. The sack moved Alabama farther away from a potential field goal attempt. Alabama then punted on fourth down and did not get another opportunity to tie the game.
Through five games, Bolden totaled 22 tackles and one interception. Georgia’s win was its first regular-season victory at Alabama since 2007.
