Two of college basketball’s most recognizable programs will meet Tuesday night when the Tennessee Volunteers visit the Duke Blue Devils for an exhibition game at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Although the result will not count toward either team’s regular-season record, the matchup should provide an entertaining preview of the 2026-27 college basketball season.
Duke enters the contest following an impressive 102-62 preseason scrimmage victory over Belmont on October 8. Jon Scheyer’s Blue Devils showed their defensive potential in that performance, holding the Bruins to 34.5 percent shooting while collecting 12 steals and seven blocked shots.
Tennessee arrives with something to prove after suffering an 86-70 exhibition loss to Xavier on October 15. Rick Barnes has assembled a roster featuring several accomplished transfers, but the Volunteers struggled defensively during the second half of that contest.
Tuesday’s matchup gives both programs another opportunity to evaluate their lineups before the regular season begins in November.

Duke Looks To Build On Impressive Preseason Performance
Duke’s performance against Belmont offered an encouraging first look at Scheyer’s team. The Blue Devils controlled the glass, outrebounding Belmont 46-28, while demonstrating the defensive versatility that could make them difficult to challenge throughout the season.
Patrick Ngongba II is among the players to watch in Duke’s frontcourt, while John Blackwell gives the Blue Devils another intriguing option on the perimeter. Their development and roles within Scheyer’s rotation will be important storylines as the season approaches.
The Blue Devils defeated Tennessee 83-76 in an exhibition game last October in Knoxville. This year’s meeting gives Duke the home-court advantage and another opportunity to test itself against an established Southeastern Conference program.
Tennessee Searches For Answers After Xavier Loss
Tennessee’s exhibition loss to Xavier raised some questions about the Volunteers’ defensive consistency. The Musketeers scored 59 second-half points, shooting better than 70 percent from the field after halftime.
Terrence Hill Jr. led Tennessee with 22 points, while Juke Harris contributed 15 and Jalen Haralson added 10. All three will be important players for Barnes as he works to develop chemistry among his newcomers.
Harris arrived after averaging 21.4 points per game at Wake Forest, while Haralson previously played at Notre Dame. Their scoring ability gives Tennessee several offensive options, but the Volunteers will need to demonstrate improvement on the defensive end.
Facing Duke inside Cameron Indoor Stadium should provide an excellent test. The Blue Devils’ size and defensive activity will challenge Tennessee’s ball movement, shot selection and ability to create offense against pressure.
Both coaches will likely experiment with rotations and combinations, but Tuesday’s exhibition should still offer valuable insight into two teams hoping to compete deep into March.
