Oklahoma travels to Gainesville on Saturday aiming to stage an upset over No. 24 Florida as the two programs face off for just the third time. The 4-4 Sooners (2-3 in the SEC) triumphed 55-20 when these teams last met in the 2020 Cotton Bowl and now hope to seal victory in their first-ever clash as conference rivals.

The Gators enter this matchup on the back of a tough 27-8 loss to No. 2 Georgia and have now lost three of their last four games. A CFP berth is gradually becoming more difficult to envision for a side that started October ranked eighth in the country, sliding down the pecking order despite some impressive wins over Ole Miss and Texas.

Oklahoma also registered a victory over the Longhorns when they were the top-ranked team in the nation a month ago and will hope to channel that same energy at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. That task will be eased by the absence of Florida defensive tackle Jeramiah McCloud, who was suspended for one game this week for misconduct after making an obscene gesture towards fans in the loss at Missouri in Week 6.

There’s some indecision over Florida’s quarterback situation, with sophomore Tramell Jones Jr. seeing more action in recent weeks after junior Aaron Philo has failed to impress as hoped. That’s music to the ears of a Sooners defense that ranks 16th in the country against the pass and seventh in third-down percentage, allowing the opposition to convert on just 28.2% of third-down plays.
