Georgia is 7-1 overall and 5-1 in the SEC, and while it’s tied with a Kentucky team with the same records – the Wildcats have a nasty schedule coming up and should lose one, if not two more games – the No. 2 team in the nation is the star.
The College Football Playoff rankings put Georgia in the two spot, and Ole Miss is tenth in the first round of rankings. But if the Rebels pull this off, college football will be in for an insane ride for the next month.
Just a quick crazy note. If Ole Miss wins, and Tennessee wins its home game over Kentucky, and South Carolina wins its home game over Texas A&M, the SEC will have a whopping ten teams that are either 5-2 or 4-3 in conference play.
Or, Georgia wins, and the SEC and College Football Playoff are right there for the taking. Either way, considering it’ll be going on at the same time as Miami at Notre Dame, this game is a really big deal.
Georgia vs Ole Miss: Quick Hits

Why Georgia Will Win
The 27-8 win over Florida was Georgia’s “enough is enough” moment. After a shaky 27-24 loss to Auburn, hurt by three turnovers, the Bulldogs have two weeks off to rest, and then won the Indoor Cocktail Party by looking deeper, stronger, and far more physical.
The running game that didn’t get going against Auburn rumbled for 217 yards against the Gators.
The Ole Miss defense isn’t exactly along for the ride, but … yeah, it sort of is. It’s not great overall, but the offense usually makes up for it. However, the team is 0-2 when allowing over 175 rushing yards, and 6-0 when it doesn’t.
Georgia averages 200 rushing yards per game.

Why Ole Miss Will Win
Last year, with Lane Kiffin at the helm, Ole Miss went full-throttle against Georgia, was up 35-26 with 13 minutes left, and … the Rebels were like a boxer that punched itself out. The defense was gassed, the team hit a wall, and the Dawgs roared back for a 43-35 win. But the Ole Miss offense worked.
In the College Football Playoff, it was a nip-and-tuck game with current head coach Pete Golding’s Ole Miss team getting up ten with nine minutes to go. Once again, the defense started to struggle, but this time around, Rebel quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and the offense were able to pull it out in the final moments. And the offense really worked.
Yeah, this is a new year, new teams, and the Georgia defense is far more experienced, but Chambliss and the offense are still fantastic. The Rebels still go all out and will make this a track meet. The offense will still work.
Georgia vs Ole Miss Prediction, Betting Lines
Last year’s Georgia team was, in many ways, statistically better than this year’s version. However, last year’s Bulldog team got roasted by the Ole Miss pace.
Georgia allowed 350 yards or more four times last year. Two times were against Ole Miss, once was in a loss to Alabama, and once was a wild overtime win over Tennessee. Georgia allowed over 350 yards just once this season – the 27-24 loss to Auburn.
How many times was the Ole Miss offense held to under 400 yards last year? Twice. Once in that first loss to Georgia, the other time in the CFP to Miami. How many times has Ole Miss been held to under 400 yards this year? Once – the loss two weeks ago against Texas.
Georgia’s defense will do the job this time around when it comes to allowing fewer than 400 yards, and it’ll be combined with a ground game that will run 40 times for well over 200 yards.
Georgia 31, Ole Miss 26
