With the No. 6 Alabama football team losing to No. 14 Tennessee on Saturday, 26-10, the program joined fellow SEC powerhouse schools that also suffered upset losses. As No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs lost to unranked Auburn, to go along with No.7 Texas Longhorns dropping to unranked Florida, the three schools losing on the same day is a rare feat that hasn’t been seen in 30 years.
According to college football insider Pete Nakos at On3 Sports, Saturday was the first time since Oct. 26 of 1996 that the Crimson Tide, Bulldogs, and the Longhorns “all lost on the same day.”
“First time since Oct. 26, 1996, that Georgia, Alabama & Texas all lost on the same day,” Nakos wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

There’s no denying that the three programs listed have each had stupendous success in the college football landscape, which is why Saturday’s result is a rare sight, as it was hard to find a time when the teams lost on the same day. For the Crimson Tide, who arguably had the least-crushing loss to a ranked Volunteers, unlike the Longhorns and Bulldogs losing to unranked teams, it was still a frustrating game.
If there was a similarity, it was frustrating quarterback play. Starting with Alabama quarterback Keelon Russell, he threw for 147 yards with two interceptions and zero touchdown passes to go along with a rushing score against Tennessee. As for Manning with Texas, he threw for 173 yards and a touchdown, but he gave up a key fumble late to seal the win for the Gators.
Looking at Gunner Stockton with the Bulldogs, he recorded 272 yards with two touchdowns, but also had the two interceptions that gave the Tigers opportunities. At any rate, each team looks to bounce back as on Oct. 24, the Crimson Tide face Texas A&M, the Longhorns take on No. 9 Ole Miss, and on Oct. 31, Georgia faces Florida.
