The Florida Gators are preparing to try and snap a two-game losing streak by traveling to Austin to take on No. 7 Texas on Saturday.
The Gators are unsure who their quarterback will be against the Longhorns.
Philo went 21 of 28 passing for 227 yards, one touchdown, and one interception in Florida's 38-19 loss to South Carolina. He was replaced by Tramell Jones Jr. in the fourth quarter. He finished going 6 of 8 passing for 40 yards.
Jones came in for Philo in Florida's blowout loss to Mizzou the week before, so there wasn't much thought to Jones finishing the game against the Gamecocks.
However, Philo is dealing with an injury. Per Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports, Philo's status against Texas is "in question" this week. He has been limited so far in practice this week.
Sumrall believes in Jones if the Gators need him to make a start against a Texas team that was ranked No. 1 in the country before being upset by the Oklahoma Sooners in the "Red River Rivalry” in Week 6.
Through the first six games of the season, Jones has gone 23 of 29 passing for 252 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions.
With questions at quarterback, the Gators need the running game to be much better against the Longhorns than it has been in the last two games. Jadab Baugh was limited to 31 yards on 12 carries against Missouri. He added 59 yards and a score on 15 carries against South Carolina.
Florida rushed for 120 yards total against the Gamecocks.
The Longhorns have one of the nation's best defenses in the country. 14 of the 27 points Oklahoma scored on Texas came via a pick-6 by Arch Manning and a blocked punt return touchdown.
Time to turn to Tramell Jones?
Philo has received heavy criticism during the Gators’ two-game losing streak. He battled Jones, a freshman, in training camp for the job.
If Florida does not start winning games in the next few weeks, it might be a good idea to turn over the Keys to Jones and let him develop for the remainder of the season.
The Gators’ hopes of making the College Football Playoff are just about over after two blowout losses. Florida needs to remain competitive this year while building a foundation that will help next year's team achieve even greater things in Year 2 for Sumrall.
