The No. 17 Florida Gators decided to go with quarterback Aaron Philo to get the start against No. 3 Georgia on Saturday.

Philo and Tramell Jones Jr. split reps with the first-team unit at practice this week. Jones got the start in Florida's upset of Texas on Oct. 17 after Philo battled a shoulder injury he suffered in UF's loss to South Carolina. Philo was the starting quarterback to start the year, leading the team to a 52-28 win over Ole Miss but also was the starter in blowout losses to Mizzou and the Gamecocks.

On the Gators’ opening drive, Philo made a terrible mistake, throwing an underhanded pass on a scramble that was intercepted by Ellis Robinson IV. Georgia would score its first touchdown of the game eight plays later.

Philo would get pulled in the second quarter after he threw his second interception of the day. In the first half, Philo went 5 of 7 passing for 26 yards and two touchdowns.

Jones didn't do too much better as Philo's replacement against Georgia. He had a sack-fumble returned for a touchdown in the second quarter. The Bulldogs would take a 24-0 lead into the half.

Jones had a promising drive in the third quarter end in a red zone interception from the UGA 3-yard line.

Early in the fourth quarter, Jones had gone 16 of 22 passing for 157 yards and one interception.

The Gators were being badly outplayed by Georgia at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Through the early fourth quarter, Florida's offensive line had given up three sacks.

The running game was also non-existent for Florida. Running back Jadan Baugh had 38 yards rushing on 17 carries. The offense as a whole had rushed for 40 yards on 24 carries with seven minutes to play in the fourth quarter.

UF entered Saturday's game with an opportunity to stay in the College Football Playoff conversation. With wins over Ole Miss and Texas, the Gators had two impressive wins on their resume.

However, a blowout loss to Georgia will slam the door shut on that idea. It was a disappointing performance by the offense, and one that should have head coach Jon Sumrall reevaluating every position on the unit.

Florida has four games remaining on its schedule: Oklahoma, No. 9 Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and Florida State. The Gators can still have a good season and make a bowl game, but they're not ready to be an elite team in the SEC.

They certainly needed better play from the quarterback position to contend.
