The Ohio State Buckeyes are no longer the No. 1 team in ESPN's Football Power Index (FPI) rankings. Ohio State defeated the Illinois Fighting Illini 42-19 behind a monster 217-yard, four touchdown performance from star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith.

However, FPI was more impressed with the Georgia Bulldogs' dominant 41-13 win over the Oklahoma Sooners. Georgia is the new No. 1 in FPI. Georgia's win over Oklahoma dropped the Sooners to No. 21 from No. 14 in FPI.

The Bulldogs are followed by the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who are off to a dominant start to the season. Ohio State is No. 3 in FPI, which is a "measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward" for the remainder of the season.

FPI's rankings are meant to forecast, which explains why Ohio State is No. 3 ahead of No. 4 Texas, who beat Ohio State head-to-head. No. 5 Miami rounds out the top five.

FPI gives Georgia the best chance to win the national championship at 15.8%. The Bulldogs have two remaining regular season games against FPI top-10 opponents in No. 6 Alabama and No. 10 Florida.
