The nation's top college football team gets a much-needed break in Week 5.
Texas football, fresh off surviving a road trip to Rocky Top against No. 13 Tennessee in Week 4, will have Week 5 of the college football season off after the Longhorns' 20-17 win over the Volunteers.
The bye week also comes before the game Longhorns fans circle every year: the Red River Rivalry against archrival Oklahoma, at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. The Sooners are also off in Week 5, which gives both teams two weeks to prepare for the game surrounded by the State Fair of Texas.

No. 1 Texas is undefeated, with ranked wins over Ohio State and Tennessee so far. But the Longhorns can't overlook the reeling Sooners, which are coming off a mistake-filled, 41-18 loss to No. 2 Georgia. Oklahoma's offense has struggled this season, but history suggests anything can happen when both teams face off in Dallas.
The bye week not only comes before the Red River Rivalry, but also before Texas embarks on a run of tough matchups. The Longhorns will face No. 8 Florida, No. 12 Ole Miss and No. 16 Mississippi State in consecutive games after facing Oklahoma.
Here's what to know of Texas' schedule going forward in the 2026 season:
