Week 6 of the College Football season has come to an end. There is a new team at the top of the Power Rankings. Georgia takes over the top spot after beating Alabama for the first time in the regular season since 2007. That was not the only reason Georgia makes the jump up, as former top team Texas falls to Oklahoma in the Red River Rivalry. While there were changes at the top of the Top 25, much of the top-10 remained the same with some shuffling.

Meanwhile, further down the rankings, there were plenty of shakeups. Overall, five teams dropped from the rankings, and five new ones joined in. LSU and Florida took massive losses, knocking them out, while North Dakota State took their first loss of the year and is likely out of College Football Playoff contention.

Georgia is the new top team in the power rankings. The Bulldogs move up after facing off against Alabama. Georgia took a 10-0 lead midway through the second quarter, but Alabama came back. Marshall Pritchett caught a 22-yard touchdown reception from Keelon Russell, and then EJ Crowell ran the ball in for a touchdown as time expired in the first half. That gave Alabama a lead heading into the second half. It was a tight second half as well. Gunner Stockton ran in a 14-yard touchdown, but Alabama tied the game in the third quarter on a field goal.

Georgia missed a field goal in the fourth quarter, but then forced a punt from Alabama. They would then drive 84 yards in 5:19 to take the lead with a field goal. After forcing an Alabama punt, Georgia ran out the clock and won 20-17. Georgia is now the only team still undefeated in SEC play. Georgia hosts Auburn next week.

2. Indiana (+1)

It was a stressful day for Indiana fans. Nebraska controlled the first three quarters of the game. While the only touchdown in the first three quarters came from a Nyziah Hunter run in the first quarter, the Nebraska defense was great. It was a 10-6 lead for the Cornhuskers going into the fourth quarter. Then Anthony Colandrea broke a 39-yard touchdown run to make it 17-6. That is when Nick Marsh took over the game for Indiana. The first play for Indiana after giving up the touchdown was a 75-yard reception for Marsh for a score. After forcing Nebraska to punt, Indiana went for it on 4th and 1 on the next drive. That play was a 44-yard touchdown reception for Marsh to take the lead. Indiana won the game 20-17 to remain undefeated. Indiana hosts Ohio State next time out.

3. Notre Dame (+1)

Notre Dame remains undefeated as well. It was a game of complete domination for the Irish over Stanford. The Irish scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, and added another three in the second. They led 37-0 at halftime and would go on to win the game 58-7. Jonaz Walton was a beast in the game, running for 181 yards and two scores. Meanwhile, CJ Carr threw for 181 yards and three touchdowns in the contest. Notre Dame has a massive game on the road next week, visiting BYU.

4. Miami (FL) (+1)

Miami had a week off and still moved up in the rankings. The Hurricanes are 5-0 on the year and have been dominant. They have scored 40 or more points in four of five games. Meanwhile, they have given up 14 or fewer points in four of five games. The only game that was within two scores this year was on the road on a Friday night against Wake Forest. They won that game 33-20. Miami returns to the field on Saturday against Florida State, who could be on an interim coach.

5. Texas (-4)

Texas is the first major drop of the week after taking their first loss of the year. Arch Manning found Cam Coleman for a 41-yard touchdown to open the scoring, and Texas held a 17-7 lead at the end of the first half. Oklahoma clawed back. They hit a field goal in the third quarter, and then Lloyd Avant tied the game to open the fourth quarter. Peyton Bowen then picked off Manning, returning it 42 yards for a touchdown to give Oklahoma the lead. Manning responded, though. He led Texas on a drive and capped it with a 15-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Bishop Jr. to tie the game.

Texas had a chance to take the lead after forcing a punt, but missed a 53-yard field goal. After forcing another punt, Texas had the ball. Manning was intercepted for a second time on the drive, turning over the ball with just 19 seconds left. That was enough time for Oklahoma to get into field goal range and hit the game-winning field goal, upsetting Texas 27-24. The win over Texas stops their slide in the Top 25, and Texas will look to rebound next week at home against Florida.

6. Ohio State (-)

Ohio State continued to win, taking out Maryland in Week 6. They opened up the game with a 33-yard touchdown pass to Jeremiah Smith to take the lead, and Smith scored again in the second quarter. Ohio State held a 31-10 lead at the end of the first half, and went on to win the game 45-16. Smith had just four receptions in the game, going for 93 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, Bo Jackson was a beast. He ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns in the win. The Buckeyes have a massive game on Saturday, visiting the defending national champion Indiana.

7. BYU (+1)

No LJ Martin, no problem for BYU. Bear Bachmeier still led BYU to a solid victory. He would complete 22 of 30 passes against Iowa State for 329 yards and two touchdowns. He was also great on the ground, running for 109 yards on just nine carries. Meanwhile, the defense was great. They held Jaylen Raynor to 16 of 29 passing for just 98 yards. Meanwhile, Iowa State had just 200 total yards of offense, while BYU put up 506 yards in the 24-10 win. BYU will be the host of College Game Day next week as they host Notre Dame.

8. Texas Tech (+1)

Texas Tech is also 5-0 on the season. The offense has not been as explosive with Will Hammond at quarterback. They have done more than enough, though. They are averaging over 30 points per game while the defense has yet to give up 30 this year. The Red Raiders do have a big win this year. In mid-September, Texas Tech took a 28-26 win over Houston at home. The Red Raiders will return to action this upcoming Saturday, hosting Arizona State. Right now, the biggest opposition to an undefeated season will come in November, when Texas Tech visits Oklahoma State.

9. Utah (+1)

Three straight Big 12 teams sit in the Top Ten as Utah jumps up one spot. The Utes were great this week facing Kansas. They took an early 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but would lead just 21-17 at the end of the first half. Still, Utah dominated the second half, scoring three times and taking the 41-24 win. Devon Dampier threw for 238 yards and three touchdowns while running for 71 yards and a score. Meanwhile, Wayshawn Parker ran for 171 yards and two scores in the victory. Utah hits the road next week to visit Colorado.

10. Alabama (-3)

Alabama has taken its first loss of the year. The Crimson Tide had chances to take out Georgia, but just could not do it. On the final drive of the game for Georgia, Alabama was trying to stop the Bulldogs to get the ball back. On a second-and-three play, Alabama’s Dijon Lee Jr. committed a personal foul, which cost the Tide any chance of getting the ball back, and the game. Alabama now looks to rebound. They still control their destiny in the SEC, and it starts on the road against Tennessee next week.

11. Ole Miss (-)

Ole Miss was dominant this past week. Kewan Lacy was still limited, running the ball just seven times for 39 yards, but he did score. Meanwhile, Trinidad Chambliss threw for 213 yards and three touchdowns while running a touchdown in on the ground. Ole Miss also dominated the Vanderbilt offense. They held Vandy to 343 yards, but the difference in the game was turnovers. Chambliss threw one interception, but Vanderbilt turned over the ball four times in the 52-17 victory for the Rebels. They will return home next week for a massive showdown with Missouri.

12. Tennessee (+1)

Tennessee moves up a spot this week, but could be tumbling soon. The Vols struggled with Arkansas. George MacIntyre got the start for Tennessee over Faizon Brandon. MacIntyre was not great. He completed 18 of 2 passes for 247 yards and a touchdown. He also threw two interceptions in the game. Still, DeSean Bishop was great once again. He ran the ball just 19 times, but racked up 138 yards with a score. Tennessee held Arkansas to 2-11 on third down, but three turnovers nearly cost them the game. The Vols were down 14-10 in the fourth quarter, but still came away with the 24-17 win. Next week, Tennessee plays host to Alabama, in a game that will show if Tennessee was just looking ahead when facing Arkansas or if they are in real trouble.

13. Mississippi State (+3)

Eight teams in the SEC have one loss in conference play, while only Georgia is still undefeated. One of those teams is Mississippi State. They are 4-1 on the season with a win over Missouri. They also have a win over Minnesota on the road, but that does not look as good considering the Golden Gophers just lost to Purdue. Kamario Taylor has been great this year, and the week off this week should put him in a position to start next week. Still, the game on Saturday could be massive for their SEC hopes. They will visit LSU, who is coming off a loss and is just 1-2 in conference play.

14. Missouri (+3)

The SEC logjam continues at the 14 spot in the Top 25 as Missouri clocks in. Missouri still has just one loss on the year, falling to Mississippi State on the road by seven. This past week, they took care of business against Texas A&M. The Aggies took the lead in the first quarter on a field goal, but Missouri responded with a touchdown and field goal of their own in the second quarter. Jamal Roberts was the story of the game, running the ball 34 times for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Meanwhile, the defense picked off Marcel Reed twice and held Texas A&M to just 29 yards rushing in the 27-6 victory. They have a chance for a signature victory next week, visiting Ole Miss.

15. Kentucky (+5)

Kentucky is the cardiac cats this year. The Wildcats were 3-1, with the only loss being to Alabama heading into Week 5. In Week 5, they faced South Carolina. The game went to overtime, and South Carolina had the ball first. They scored and kicked the extra point. In overtime, Kentucky scored and went for two, winning 35-34. This past week, they hosted LSU. It was a back-and-forth game, but Kentucky tied the game with a field goal with just 12 seconds left. In overtime, Sam Leavitt ran in a 15-yard touchdown to take the 34-27 lead. Kentucky answered with a one-yard run from CJ Baxter. Once again, Kentucky went for two and the win. Quarterback Kenny Minchey ran in the two-point conversion, giving Kentucky a second straight 35-34 win. Kentucky hits the road next week, facing off against Oklahoma.

16. UCLA (+10)

Welcome to the Top 25, UCLA. UCLA may actually be a CFP contender. Still, this story seems oddly familiar. A coach takes James Madison to amazing heights, winning a ton of games. That coach gets hired by a Big Ten team and takes a bunch of players with him. Then, that new team does great. Curt Cignetti did that at Indiana after leaving JMU, and now Bob Chesney is doing the same. UCLA is the biggest riser in the ranking after their 17-15 win over Oregon. Wayne Knight caught a touchdown pass from Ty Diffenbach in the fourth quarter to make it 17-6. Still, Oregon hit a field goal, and then scored with 2:16 left in the game. They went for two to tie the game, but it failed. UCLA punted on the next drive, but Oregon could not score, giving UCLA the win. In the game, Nico Iamaleava was benched after throwing two interceptions and losing a fumble. The Bruins will face Wisconsin next week.

17. Oklahoma State (+4)

Oklahoma State just keeps winning. Had it not been for an early-season loss to Tulsa, this could be a top-ten team. Regardless, the Cowboys are 4-1 and 2-0 in Big 12 play. This past week, it was a 42-28 win over UCF. UCF was an issue early in the game. They scored twice in the first quarter, and the game was tied at 21 going into the halftime break. The second half was all Oklahoma State. They scored on a scoop-and-score by Evan Jackson, while Drew Mestemaker also threw a touchdown pass. Mestemaker completed 19 of 28 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns in the game, as Oklahoma State won 42-28. They will visit Houston next week.

18. Iowa (-)

Iowa dominated this week. After two field goals to open the game against Washington, Kamari Moulton had a 56-yard run to make it 13-0 in the first quarter. Touchdown passes from Jeremy Hecklinisk, who took over as the starting QB with the Hank Brown injury, gave Iowa the 27-3 lead at the end of the first half. Washington scored with no time left on the clock, but it just made the score look prettier. Iowa took a 41-24 win in the game. They have a week off next week before visiting Minnesota. While they still have games against Northwestern and Nebraska, Iowa is a prime spot to make a run in the Big Ten.

19. USC (-)

USC is now 6-1 on the season. They just visited Happy Valley and a Penn State White Out. Over 114,000 fans showed up for the contest, and they got to witness a USC victory. The game was tied at 17 at the end of the first half, and Penn State took a lead in the third quarter. King Miller gave USC back the lead in the third, but Ryan Barker made it a one-point game with a field goal in the fourth. USC drove the field, and Jayden Maiava found Kayden Dixon-Wyatt for a touchdown to make it a 31-24 USC lead. The Trojans forced a punt on the next drive, before punting themselves. Then, USC forced a fumble and recovered it, allowing them to run out the clock and take the win. USC is off next week before visiting Wisconsin.

20. Northwestern (+6)

Like the SEC, there is a logjam in the Big Ten as well. This one contains a shocking Northwestern team. Northwestern opened the season 2-0, but then lost on the road. The loss was a 29-23 game against Indiana on the road. They would then go on to dominate Penn State before facing Ball State this past week. Aiden Chiles had another stellar game. He completed 17 of 23 passes for 272 yards and three scores. He also ran the ball for 32 yards and another touchdown. The 4-1 Wildcats hit the road next week to face Michigan State.

21. Boise State (+4)

Welcome to a playoff spot, Boise State. Right now, Boise is the top team from the non-power conferences, but that could change. They have not lost since the 34-27 loss to Oregon. Still, the more Oregon struggles, the worse that loss looks. They did not help themselves this week facing Fresno State. It was still a tight game late in the fourth quarter when Manaki Watanabe hit a field goal to make it a one-score game for Fresno State. Still, the Broncos got the onside kick and ran out the clock to take the 38-31 win. Boise State is off this upcoming week before a visit to Washington State.

22. Houston (+4)

Houston joins the Top 25 this week. The only loss on the year for the Cougars is a 28-26 loss on the road to Texas Tech. This past week, they faced Kansas State. Houston built a dominant lead in the game, holding a 21-3 lead at the end of the first half. Conner Wiegman continued the dominance with a touchdown pass to open the third quarter. He went on to pass for 242 yards and four touchdowns in the 35-16 victory. Still, Houston’s spot in the Top 25 is precarious. They will host Oklahoma State next week.

23. Wake Forest (+3)

Wake Forest has now entered the chat. Gio Lopez went off against North Carolina State, passing for 202 yards and three touchdowns. He also added a touchdown on the ground. The first half of the game was tight. Wake Forest hit a field goal as time expired in the second quarter to make it 14-10 in favor of NC State. They did not mess around in the second half. Lopez threw two touchdown passes and ran in a score in the third quarter, as the team added another touchdown in the fourth. They also shut out NC State in the second half on the way to a 38-14 win. Wake is now second in the ACC and will visit Cal next week.

24. James Madison (+2)

A new non-power conference team joins the Top 25 as James Madison keeps rolling. JMU has lost just 11 games in four years since joining the FBS ranks. They also made it to the playoffs last year. In that time, they have had two different coaches, Curt Cignetti and Bob Chesney. Now, Billy Napier is looking to keep it going. JMU is now 6-0. They opened the season with a tight, 20-13 win over Liberty. That win looks better the more Liberty wins. This past week, they took a 27-24 win on the road. Backup quarterback JC Evans threw just two passes in the game, but both went for touchdowns. Meanwhile, Cole Keller has 108 yards and a score in the game as JMU took the 27-24 victory. They host Georgia State next week.

25. Nebraska (-1)

Nebraska drops a spot this week, but even with the loss, holds on to the Top 25. The Cornhuskers drop to 5-1 on the season with the loss to Indiana. Nebraska was stellar on defense. They held Indiana to just 328 total yards and 65 on the ground. Further, 180 of the total yards came in the fourth quarter for Indiana, including a 75-yard catch-and-run by Nick Marsh. Nebraska fell 20-17 to the defending champions. They will visit Oregon next week.
