Week 9 brought another round of upsets in college football, including Ohio State falling to USC. It was a 30-18 loss for Ohio State, their second loss of the year. Meanwhile, other top teams escaped with wins. Miami nearly fell to North Carolina, winning by just three points. Indiana needed overtime again but beat Minnesota 23-16.
With this being a fourth straight week an AP Top 2 team fell, the changes at the top are happening again. Just two teams remained static in the Power Rankings this week, while the Top 25 saw some new additions.

1. Miami (FL) (-)

Miami nearly lost the top spot, but managed to hold on. It was not an easy game against UNC. Miami scored two first-half touchdowns, but each time, North Carolina responded. They did end the half with a field goal to take the 17-14 lead into the break. Still, North Carolina scored to open the third quarter on a touchdown to Jordan Shipp. Mark Fletcher Jr. answered, giving Miami the lead going into the fourth. North Carolina scored again, but touchdowns from Fletcher and Malachi Toney put the game out of reach, as Miami won 38-35. Fletcher ended up with two touchdowns on the ground while running for 43 yards. Malachi Toney brought in seven receptions for 75 yards and two scores. Darian Mensah put on another Heisman-worthy performance as well. He completed 22 of 29 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns. Miami has a massive matchup next week, as they visit Notre Dame on Saturday night.
2. Georgia (+1)
Georgia moves up a spot this week after the loss to Ohio State. The Bulldogs faced off with Florida in Atlanta, Georgia, this past week, and Georgia dominated. They put up 24 points in the first half, including a 66-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown by Chris Cole to make it 24-0 heading into the halftime break. Florida finally scored in the fourth quarter on a Tramell Jones Jr. run, but it was not enough as Georgia won 27-8. The Georgia defense was phenomenal. They held Florida to just 4 for 12 on third down, while having just 252 yards of offense. Meanwhile, Florida ran for just 54 yards on 28 carries. The Bulldogs also forced four turnovers in the game. The four turnovers led to 17 Georgia points. Georgia hit the road next week as they visit Ole Miss.
3. Utah (+1)
There are just three undefeated teams remaining in the nation, and one of them is Utah. Utah is now ranked third in the nation, and leads the Big 12 after their eighth win of the season. The last two games have been more uncomfortable than Utah is used to. First, it was a 27-24 win over Colorado on the road, and then a 21-13 win over Houston. This past week, they were on the road against Cincinnati. Utah dominated the game early on. After a Hunter Andrews touchdown pass from Devon Dampier, the defense held Cincinnati to a field goal. Wayshawn Parker ran in a touchdown next, before a Rabbit Evans defensive touchdown to open the second quarter. Utah led 42-6 heading into the halftime break. Cincinnati opened up the second half with a pick-six, and then added a long touchdown run, but they were well out of it as Utah won 49-25. Devon Dampier threw for 260 and three touchdowns, with Hunter Andrews hauling in five receptions for 112 yards and two scores. Utah will look to remain undefeated when BYU visits Utah on Saturday.
4. UCLA (+1)
UCLA is also undefeated in their first season under Bob Chesney as they move to 8-0. This week was not the biggest test of the year for the Bruins as they hosted Nevada. They dominated early, forcing interceptions on each of the first three drives for Nevada, including returning one for a touchdown. Overall, the defense forced four turnovers on the day, while holding Nevada to just 176 yards of offense. The UCLA offense was not great, but Ty Dieffenbach threw for 178 yards with a passing touchdown and a rushing touchdown in the 27-0 victory. Next up for the Bruins is a road trip against Minnesota, who just took another top team in the nation to overtime.
5. Indiana (+1)
Indiana is just up one spot, but once again it was not easy. On October 10, Indiana made a fourth-quarter comeback to beat Nebraska 20-17. They would then lose a tight game to Ohio State, 19-15. The next week, Indiana did not score a touchdown until overtime, but that was enough to beat Michigan 13-6. This past week, overtime was needed again against Minnesota. Minnesota took a 3-0 lead early, but Josh Hoover found Nick Marsh to take the lead. Still, Drake Lindsey threw a touchdown pass to give Minnesota the lead going into the half. The second half saw plenty of scoring plays, but all were field goals. With 19 seconds left in the game, Minnesota hit a 60-yard field goal to take a 16-13 lead. The 19 seconds were too many to leave Indiana. They hit a 33-yard pass on the first play from scrimmage, setting up the ball at the Minnesota 42. Paddy McAteer then hit a 60-yard field goal to send it to overtime. There, Indiana scored while Minnesota did not, as the Hoosiers won 23-16. Next up for Indiana is a week off, before a visit from USC.
6. BYU (+1)

BYU needed to rebound after being stunned in double overtime by UCF just last week. They did just that against Arizona State. The Cougars started strong with a touchdown by Sione Moa in the first quarter. Then, Kyler Kasper would haul in a pass from Bear Bachmeier in the second to give BYU the 17-3 lead going into the halftime break. Still, Arizona State made the comeback. They scored twice on touchdown passes from Jake Fette in the third to tie the game. BYU then hit a field goal to open the fourth, and then went on a 95-yard drive that ended in Moa’s second touchdown of the game on the way to a 27-20 win. Next up for BYU is a Top ten matchup with Utah on Saturday.
7. Notre Dame (+1)
Notre Dame jumps up a spot after handing Navy the loss. It did not start here for the Irish. Navy opened the scoring with a field goal, but CJ Carr found Micah Gilbert to answer. Navy added a field goal and touchdown to take a lead, but the Irish hit a big play to respond. Nolan James Jr. broke out for a 52-yard run to give the Irish the 14-13 lead going into the half. Notre Dame then dominated the second half. Jonaz Walton and Nolan James Jr. both scored on the ground while Jerome Bettis Jr. hauled in a touchdown pass from CJ Carr on the way to a 35-13 win. Notre Dame has a chance to prove they are one of the best in the nation next Saturday as they host Miami on Saturday night.
8. Kentucky (+1)
Kentucky is 7-1 on the year and coming off an open week. After beating Youngstown State in Week 1, they fell to Alabama. Since then, Kentucky just keeps winning. They have overtime wins over South Carolina and LSU, along with wins over Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Vanderbilt. The rest of the schedule for Kentucky is not easy, but winning out will not only put them in the SEC Championship, but surely in a playoff spot. They will visit Tennessee next week before games with Florida, Missouri, and Louisville to end the season.
9. Alabama (+1)
Alabama jumps up a spot as well on their bye week. They opened up the year 5-0, with wins over Kentucky, South Carolina, and Mississippi State on the resume. Still, they lost their next two games, falling to both Georgia at home and Tennessee on the road. The Tide finally rebounded in their last game, as they knocked off Texas A&M 31-20. Next week, they will visit LSU, with a chance to solidify their standing as a top ten team. The season ends with a trip to Vanderbilt before home games wth Chattanooga and Auburn.
10. Texas Tech (+1)
Texas Tech is back in the win column. A week after losing to Cincinnati on the road, the Red Raiders came home to face off against a ranked Arizona team. Before the game, Texas Tech coach Joey McGuire decided to make a change at quarterback, naming Tommy Castellanos the starter. Castellanos was not at his best, but he did spark the running game. He completed just 11 of 24 passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns. Still, he ran for 117 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, J’Koby Williams ran for another 175 yards and a score. The defense was suspect, allowing Noah Fifita to throw for 417 yards, but Texas Tech survived, winning 34-26. Next up for the Red Raiders is a home date against West Virginia.
11. Wake Forest (+1)

Wake Forest is 7-1 on the year, and one of the best teams in the ACC. This past week, it was a lesson in complete domination facing off against Virginia. UVA did not score until late in the third quarter, and by that point, the Demon Deacons already had a 44-point lead. Gio Lopez threw for 229 yards and a touchdown, while Ty Clark III ran for 48 yards and three more scores. Wake Forest held Virginia to just one of 12 on third downs, while also allowing just 16 yards rushing on 19 attempts in the 51-7 win. Next up for Wake Forest is a home date with Merrimack. They finish the season with road contests against SMU and Georgia Tech before hosting Duke to end the year.
12. Texas (+1)
Texas opened the season 4-0, including wins over Ohio State, UTSA, and Tennessee. Then they dropped two in a row, falling to Oklahoma and Florida. They have since rebounded, taking out Ole Miss last week, before hosting Mississippi State this past week. Arch Manning was great in the contest. He completed 16 of 20 passes for 220 yards with three touchdowns in the game. Emmett Mosley V had 98 yards and a score, while Cam Coleman brought in 61 yards and a touchdown. The defense was great, holding Mississippi State to just 187 yards in the 31-3 victory. Next week, the Longhorns will visit Missouri.
13. Ohio State (-11)
The biggest fall of the week belongs to Ohio State. It is not that the Buckeyes took their second loss of the year; it is that the offense looked horrible in the process. Luke Fahey got the start for Ohio State with Julian Sayin injured. Fahey completed 21 of 28 passes for 160 yards and a touchdown. Jeremiah Smith was the main target. He hauled in ten receptions for 83 yards and a touchdown. The touchdown in the fourth quarter for Smith was the only one of the day for the Buckeyes, as they put up just 18 points. USC won the game 30-18. Next up for Ohio State is a home date with Oregon on Saturday.
14. Ole Miss (-)
Ole Miss is a winner again, moving to 6-2 on the year after a win over Auburn. The Tigers kept it tight with the Rebels in the first half, as Ole Miss led 14-9 going into the halftime break. After Auburn made it 17-15 on a Byrum Brown touchdown run, Ole Miss took over. Trinidad Chambliss ran in a touchdown in the third quarter, before tossing two fourth-quarter touchdown passes. Ole Miss also got a touchdown from Deuce Knight as they scored the last four touchdowns of the game on the way to a 45-15 win. Ole Miss will host a second-ranked Georgia next time out.
15. Tennessee (+1)
Tennessee is coming off an open week, but move up a spot with losses in front of them. The Vols opened the season 3-0 before a loss to Texas at home. They would then win three more, including knocking off Alabama. Last time they took to the field, Tennessee lost to South Carolina 27-24. The Volunteers will be at home next week, as they will host Kentucky.
16. LSU (+3)
LSU keeps slowly moving back up the power rankings and once again did so, after losses by teams in front of them. They are 6-2 on the year. After opening wins over Clemson and Louisiana Tech, they took an emotional loss on the road to Ole Miss. Still, the Tigers rebounded with wins over Texas A&M and McNeese. Then, they visited Kentucky. The game went to overtime, and while LSU scored first, Kentucky answered and went for two. They hit the two-point conversion, sending LSU to their second loss of the year. Since then, the Tigers have defeated Mississippi State and Auburn. They have lost just two games by a combined nine points this year, and will get a chance for a statement victory this week, hosting Alabama.
17. Missouri (+3)

There are eight teams in the SEC with two or fewer losses and six or more wins. There are also just two teams with only one loss. The last of the two-loss teams in the conference is Missouri. They moved to 6-2 this week with a 34-10 win over Arkansas. It was not a great start for the offense. The first scoring drive stalled out and led to a field goal. Their first touchdown of the day came on a fumble recovery by Darris Smith. They would add another field goal before halftime, but led just 13-7 going into the break. Still, Austin Simmons threw two touchdown passes in the second half, while the defense shut down Arkansas on the way to a 34-10 win. Missouri is now 6-0 when not playing in the state of Mississippi. Luckily for them, they are home next week, hosting Texas. Unluckily for them, they face Texas, Georgia, and Kentucky in the next three weeks.
18. Boise State (+3)
Boise State continued to hold the Group of Six spot for the College Football Playoff, and likely will have it when the first set of rankings come out Tuesday. They are 7-1 on the season and have won seven straight games. This last one was a nailbiter, though. Boise State hosted Texas State this past week. Maddux Madsen helped build a big lead for Boise, with two touchdown runs and a pass in the first half. Boise State led 28-3 going into the halftime break. Still, the Bobcats fought back. Brad Jackson threw two touchdown passes and ran in a 35-yard score, all in the third quarter. He then added another touchdown pass in the fourth, plus a pick-six by Jayden Bradley, which gave Texas State the 39-28 lead. Madsen was hurt in the game, and Max Cutforth came in and went 8 for 13 for 131 yards and three touchdowns in the 46-45 win. Next up for Boise, a game with Colorado State before a massive clash with Oregon State.
19. Arizona (-3)
Arizona is still one of the top teams in the Big 12, but not at the upper echelon. They moved to 6-2 on the year after a loss this past week. Arizona had a halftime lead over Texas Tech, leading 17-10, but Tommy Castellanos led the Red Raiders back. The offense stalled out in the second half, as Arizona fell 34-26. Still, the two losses for Arizona are both against solid teams and both on the road. They lost the second week of the season to BYU 28-17, and then on the road to Texas Tech. They will be home this week for a Friday night game against TCU. The Wildcats also have a game against Utah in two weeks, but it is also at home.
20. USC (+6)

USC is back in the Top 25 after a huge win. The Trojans moved to 7-2 on the year after beating Ohio State. They came out of the gate swinging. Just 39 seconds into the game. Trent Mosley went 69 yards on a pass from Jayden Maiava to score. The Trojans never gave the lead back. Maiava threw for 222 yards and a touchdown, while Mosley brought in five receptions for 101 yards. Meanwhile, both King Miller and Waymond Jordan scored on the ground. They held Jeremiah Smith to 83 yards on ten receptions as well in the 30-18 victory. USC still has a path to the playoffs. If they get the win next week on the road against Indiana, it will become even clearer.
21. Houston (+1)
Houston is another team moving up on a bye week. With teams in front of them losing, Houston jumps to 21. They are 6-2 on the year, placing them in a tie for fourth in the Big 12. Still, the teams in front of them have given the Cougars trouble. They lost to Texas Tech 28-26 earlier this season. The last time they took the field, they fell to Utah 21-13. Houston has a home date with Cincinnati next week, and ends the season with contests against Colorado, West Virginia, and Baylor.
22. Iowa (+5)
Iowa is now 6-2 on the year after another win this past weekend. After a 4-0 start, they dropped their first game to Ohio State. After a rebound against Washington, they fell to Minnesota. This week, they faced a ranked Wisconsin team. Hank Brown was great in the game, completing 20 of 24 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns. Tight end DK Vonnahme scored a touchdown on the ground and caught a touchdown reception. Meanwhile, the defense was stellar. Iowa held Wisconsin to just 52 yards on the ground. Further, they held Colton Joseph and Ryan Hopkins to just 13 of 27 passing for 183 yards and an interception as Iowa won the game 30-0. The Hawkeyes hit the road next week, facing Northwestern.
23. UTSA (+2)
UTSA remains in the Top 25 after a week off. They are 7-1 on the year and have had some dominating performances. They have scored 30 or more points in all but two games this year, while giving up more than 30 just twice as well. Meanwhile, the lone loss is on the road to a Texas team that was ranked first in the nation at the time. UTSA is in an interesting situation, though. They face FAU on the road midweek, but then will host North Texas on November 14. A loss will not only knock them out of the race for a playoff spot, but could also take them out of the conference title race as well.
24. New Mexico (+2)
Welcome to the Top 25, New Mexico. It is not just a Top 25 ranking in the Power Rankings, but also the first time in program history that New Mexico has been ranked in the AP Top 25. New Mexico moved to 7-1 after a win over San Jose State. The defense did not allow an offensive touchdown in the game. They allowed three field goals in the first half, and the lone touchdown was an 89-yard pick-six off a Toa Fa’avae pass in the fourth quarter. Fa’avae has to be better in the coming weeks. He completed nine of 14 passes for 101 yards and a touchdown. He was also intercepted three times. New Mexico faces Nevada on Friday night, but is in the driver’s seat in the Mountain West.
25. Northwestern (-10)
Northwestern takes one of the big tumbles of the week. They drop to 6-2 after a loss on the road to Oregon. The Wildcats took the early lead. They hit a field goal on their first drive, and then scored on a 64-yard pass from Aidan Chiles on their second. Chiles added another touchdown on the ground in the second quarter as Northwestern led 20-13 at the end of the first half. They would extend the lead with a field goal in the third quarter, but then the offense died off. Oregon scored three touchdowns from there, including a 75-yard touchdown to Dakorien Moore in the fourth as they took the 34-26 win. Northwestern will look to rebound against Iowa this upcoming week.
